danpb Posted May 13, 2018 Share Posted May 13, 2018 Apologies if this has been covered! I've been using regular XL 45-105s for years on bass. On guitar I managed to get some free NYXLs and was really impressed how fast they settled in, their tone, their stability and strength and their life span, though I do change strings regularly. Before I splash out an extra £8 a set on NYXL bass strings over regular Xls, are the improvements the same on the bass sets? I love the sound and feel of fresh strings and generally have to change them once a month on my number 1 bass, if the NYXLs last a bit longer plus the additional benefits like the guitar sets I'd consider paying the extra. Nicer feel to the strings, brightness has held up better with age, and have now been on the bass longer than XLs would been, and they still sound fine... bassbiscuits Posted May 15, 2018 Share Posted May 15, 2018 Yep I've had a set on NYXLs on my Yamaha for about a year now (admittedly it's only been used for two full gigs and a handful of rehearsals in that time) but they do seem like good strings, and still sound and feel great.
