Does anyone have any experience of drop tuning (D, G, C, F) flatwounds? I'm tempted to just go up a gauge (currently 45 to 105) and see how that works, but if anyone's got any better suggestions then I'd be happy to hear them

Thanks guys. I still need a bit of bite at the top end though, do the LaBellas have that?

Also, It's a Jazz bass, so the pickups will probably help to give me a bit of 'snap'.

The La Bella 760M are the 'Original 1954' bridge cables.

I would not describe them as probably helping to give a bit of snap or having a bit of bite.

More that they have a lot of thump and loads of tension even drop-tuned.

Slightly more bite with slightly less tension could be the La Bella 760FS.

I have Chromes and use a 110 E string and a Hipshot double stop so I can go down to D and B during songs

Same here but just a single stop at D. You do lose some spankiness when you drop from E to D, but it's worth it for being able to stick with 4 strings.

So I've just fitted a set of Steve Harris signatures on there - even in drop D tuning I've had to tighten the truss rod slightly - god knows what the tension would be like at concert pitch. :o

I found those strings on a single coil Precision tuned down a semi tone were amazing but yes I can't imagine playing these strings at full tension either
