There's a Deluxe version, Elite version and i came across a Hot Rod version on GAK website Can anyone offer any advice or guidance on them. ? project_c Posted May 3, 2016 Share Posted May 3, 2016 Both Deluxe and Elite models are active basses. Both series have been made in the USA for a few years. There were a few Deluxes in the past including a Mexican one with a humbucker in the bridge, and some Elite Precisions in the 80s that had dual precision pickups, so you should pay attention to what year they were made in. The new Elites came out this year and replaced the Deluxe line. The main difference between them is that the Elite features the N4 (n=noiseless, 4= version 4) pickups as opposed to the N3's on the Deluxe. I think both models may have an extra fret which makes them a little longer than the usual p's and j's, so check scale length. Some people don't like Fender's Noiseless pickups and consider them to be a bit lifeless. I have a 2011 Deluxe Jazz which I bought after testing it against some USA Standards, it had a great tone both in passive and active mode, so as far as I'm concerned the comments about the pickups are not true, and that mid boost on the preamp is awesome and makes the bass sound punchy and aggressive when you need that kind of thing. You should go and play a few, it's mostly a matter of personal preference with these things. For me, I prefer a P to be simple and passive, but I like active j's. PJ's will have their own personality which is not quite P or J, just to confuse things even further. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Dave [/quote] The Hot Rod is a limited run and a very different bass - as you say, passive with a P/J set up. If GAK can supply you one new for £1049 (RRP was £2200 ish!) that would be a tempting offer! If not, I might just happen to know where a nearly new one is available!!! Today it went tropical . Glad you've enjoyed that fabulous Berg. One thing's for sure, at my age, I'm not going to argue with anybody who can lift a Berg HT322 All the best Dave.
