***SOLD*** G&L SB-2 (USA)

I bought this beauty over Christmas but sadly something I’ve been waiting for years has come up on here that I need to get. And the “Mrs Williams” rule is a strict one in one out policy otherwise..... divorce :0)

This is a 1990s USA made G&L SB-2. The serial number is on the neck plate, I’ve tried to date it but it is confusing, I’m sure someone on here will know how but I'm guessing around 1997.

I love P basses and this was designed to sound like a P bass… in turbo mode! Those Leo Fender MFD split-coil (neck) and single coil (bridge) are just ferocious. Being a USA G&L, the build quality is impeccable and this is built like a brick but nice and light at 4KG (8.82 lbs).

Unlike Fender, the G&L High Mass Saddle-Lock bride holds everything rock solid.

The "huge" choice of the 2 knobs is an interesting one…. I think of the Jazz bass bridge pickup control as more of a “Tone” knob as it changes the amount of P bass woody/bite you get.

So it can sound like a normal P bass if you like :0)

Bridge off, neck full on - P-bass on steroids.

Bridge off, neck 2/3 on - very close to P-bass

Bridge 3/4, neck full on - balanced, warm but punchy SB-2 signature sound; not quite like most PJs I’ve played, but very close.
Nice demo here: https://www.youtube....h?v=tgIp-czCOiw

When I got this bass, it was in amazing condition considering it is probably around 18 years old. No dents or scratches etc but when I get a new bass I like to give it a birthday to make it “mine”. So the neck, headstock and body were polished to a high sheen using compound and polish and all chrome and frets also polished. I rubbed bit of lemon oil on the neck to clean and protect and it’s gone a nice darker shade of rosewood.

All cavities have been screened plus the rear of the pickguard so there are no nasty hums - something again I do with all my basses. The end result is stunning - it looks like a brand new bass! Really.

The white body finish has a very subtle sparkle finish which you can see in pic number 8.

The neck is not typical "baseball bat" P bass but more akin to the current USA P basses, so quite slim and comfy.

Comes with original G&L case (and all certificates/warranty cards etc) which is in great condition except 2 of the stud feet seem to have cracked the plastic that it is secured to - see pics.

As someone who recently treated himself to the Tribute version of this - the Tribute is great so this'll be just that little bit more luxurious feeling. Great sound, punchy, powerful pickups (turn down that gain knob a touch!) and don't worry about the lack of tone control - use the volumes as directed at the start of this thread and you'll get your tonal variety.

I had one of these for a good while and upon reflection shouldn't have let her go. (this may even have been it!)
These are gig monsters, knock ANY p bass i have ever played...and there have been a few,...into the weeds.
You cannot dial a bad sound out of these. Slightly smaller than a p bass with a more jazz like neck, make them easy to live with when you get to that 'ooooh my back' ...part of the evening.
Dont let the lack of tone control put you off, these are great guitars.

I have your basses younger twin sister. I got in a trade last year with the intention of trading it on. It instantly cured my P bass GAS as It is a joy to play. You description of dialling in the sound is spot on. I'm not sure what you are looking for but you should keep it. I don't think money will buy a better bass for general use.

Thanks Pinball - it's going to hurt but it's all for the greater good (so my wife says)
