This is on a bass I'm selling. I thought it was from where it was on the wall hanger for a while she I bought it.
So if its a repair I will need to revise my ad.
No crack on the front or the back the mark fade away it seems. I cant decide if there was a repair on the side or not. It must of been done years ago. Seems perfectly fine anyhow.

Headstock splits on fenders usually eminate from tuner holes.

And it looks too smooth even for a great repair.

It could be a hanger mark - I know 'string swing' hangers can do this.

Or, another possible explanation is a feint mineral streak - seen a lot on les Paul tops, and the neck is quite figured maple...

As above, no visible cracks, splits. They would usually radiate from the screw holes or rarely along a grain like the ones in your first photograph. I go with the HowieBass and AndyTravis on this. Is just marks from a hanger.

Fender Flats or Pyramids? what is the bass btw?

Fenders finest flats, find they give a good range of tone not too flat/thumpy so to me they cover a lot of ground.
2001 p bass special deluxe, a really nice bass now belonging to Andy.
