Aguilar OBP1 query

Just got an OBP1 to drop into my Streamer fretless (it has 3 band MEC which I can't get on with... I'm a less is more guy :) ) and it appears to be an older version as it is wider and flatter than the present OBP1 displayed on the Aguilar site. My question is - can this seemingly older version be run at 18v as the present version can?

I've been on the Aggie site to no avail and I can't even find a bliddy link to send them an email!

Cheers.
From various discussions on Talkbass it appears both versions are recommended to be run at 18V, but will actually work ok at 9V if you want.
Cheers SN.

I've just done a search through TB and came to the same conclusion until... http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.p...;highlight=obp1

This seems to indicate that the OBP1 is 18v only! TBH I have room for 2x9v batteries so I can run it at that and I was more concerned about running something that 'should' operate @ 9v on 18v.

Thanks though :)

This one is a discussion about why the OBP-1 needs 18v and the conclusion, apparently supported by Aguilar, is that it can work with 9v, but they don't recommend it. About 2/3rds of the way down is a comment from someone who has the old one, which I read as "it sounds ok on 9v, but should be 18v".

If it ain't going to feck it in the process (which it seems fairly conclusive that it won't) I might try it both ways. In fact I might try to do a simple direct recording onto a digital 4 track and see what it sounds like with the present 18v 3 band MEC pre then the Aguilar @ 9v then 18v :)
Hello Warwickhunt
When the dust has settled if you would consider parting with the MEC pre I have been looking for one.

In any case I hope the transplant goes well.

No worries. Drop me a PM after the weekend and I 'should' be sorted.
The OBP1 in my fretless wouldn't work at all on 9v - it's the cube-shaped one - no idea how old....
Mine is the earlier 'none-cubed' one. I'll give it a blast as soon as I get the pots, at least it'll be obvious if the thing just doesn't work on 9v :)

Just an update and bit of info for anyone searching in the future...

The early Aguilar OBP1 (slim one not the latest cube type) runs on 18v.

Saving the knee trembler when I had no output (I had the + and - reversed when soldered to the jack output), the swap was pretty straightforward and easy with the aid of the diagram from the Aguilar website. Oh and a positive to Warwick for prompt delivery of new pots and knobs.
