I've bought a 2nd hand 2003 Ampeg SVT4 Pro and don't know how old the tubes are.
Was thinking of changing them to make sure i'm getting the best out of the amp.
I know the 1st tube is a Groove Tube 12ax7 but can't find anywhere that tells me what make the other 2 12ax7 are.

1. Can anyone help clarify. ?
2. Where is best place to get replacements ?
3. Are there any tubes you would recommend other than originals and why ?

Any help appreciated.

Dave

Are you sure the ones in it now are the originals? All three originally were Groove Tubes. I swapped mine out but I can't remember what for. I asked t eguys at Watford Valves and they recommended some for me.

Aaah, don't know - can't speak from experience - my two Ampeg preamps have both had a mixture of valves in them, some no-name, some EHX, some Groove Tubes, which suggests to me that they've been revalved in the past

i wasn't sure if it made a difference or not and wanted to keep the amp as original.
If all GT types that should make it easier. I'll look at Watford valves and see what they recommend tho

Thanks for feedback guys

Dave
