PauBass
I'm on the market for a new compressor and I have come across the new Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor. I like the idea of the blend, it's not too big and it looks simple enough for me to use ... Anyone in here using it? What do you think of it? Thanks! fretmeister
Massive price differences! £189 at GAK £130 at Thomann
elephantgrey
Its nice that it has a blend and attack, but it looks like that LED is just to show if its bypassed. Its best to get a compressor with metering else its hard to dial in. Also separate threshold/ratio controls are useful. Id suggest maybe looking at getting a empress compressor, which has more controls and better metering, but still has a blend. http://www.ovnilab.com/ is a good resource for compressors. I had seen their price already and if I were to order it, it would be from Thomann, have dealt with them in the past and their service was excellent. uncle psychosis
I am no expert on compression but personally I would never spend that kind of money on a compressor without metering, unless I was buying it because I wanted a really squashy "effecty" compression that would be easy to hear. Dialing in subtle compression without metering is a task I personally find impossible.
Dood
I reviewed one recently and have to say that with the set up used, it was really rather good!
I saw your review yesterday, it was great, very well done! It does seem like very cool comp. I like the idea of the frequencies switch and the blend. Might pull the trigger an order one. 😱
Dood
I'd like one myself too! The blend is very good and as a nice simple pedal it is also smaller than my TC Nova Dynamics which is a very good compressor!
Bass Pedal Geek
If you like the blend (I do too!), you could also take a look at the Wampler EGO. While a visual meter is nice it's a nice-to-have for me. Should you want the meter in a smaller package there is also the MXR M87 that gives you more Ratio choices as well, but no blend... I did a review of the Ego recently, so if you want to hear what it sounds like, you can find it here: http://bass-pedals.com/wampler-ego-compressor-review.html
JapanAxe
The Xotic SP Compressor also has a blend control. I am seriously pondering one, but I think I will have to wait till next Saturday to go down to Anderton's and try one out.
I had one of those a while ago and I did not like it on bass too much, my bass sounded way better without it ...it did roll the bottom end off and there was some balls missing from my sound Edited May 25, 2015 by PauBass
fretmeister
Same for me on the SP Comp. Too much bass roll off. Hissy at higher settings too.

Modman
It is lacking controls to be a "studio" compressor for my liking. Still not going to beat MXR's compressor that's for sure.
Sure it's not a studio compresor only with those controls, I also think there's not that many studio comps around on pedal format to be honest... but for those of us that are looking for a more straight forward comp seems like a good option, I'm not one for tinkering around with lots of controls
