The Madness sound???

I am looking to try and get that sound Bedders gets. That 'bark' sounds great.
I know a lot is in the fingers/player and i have the P bass sorted. Have noticed recently he uses SVT's and 8x10's.

I was wondering if something like the marshall VBA and 4x12 cab would get me somewhere close.

Has any got any ideas/comments?

Cheers

Probably just playing your P bass nearer the bridge will give you the sound. What you're hearing on the record is prob a mix of DI and effects anyway, so don't get too hung up on trying to nail it.

That said, you might want to try using a Aphex Xciter or SansAmp to get a more scooped sound.

Agree that he's a great player though.

Nice bass sound on the intro to "Our House". Try letting your preamp run at just going into distortion, so as to give your speakers a little bark but you can back off with your volume on the amp.

Yeah, Bedders is a great bass player, very underated and in one of Englands most successful bands.

Can't see why your VBA and 4x12 won't tear it up with a P bass, wow, that will be a joy to behold.

But don't stress if you can't get HIS tone,
settle for YOUR tone instead.
