The Burpster Posted June 23, 2007 Share Posted June 23, 2007 SS, I cant tell you a comparison between an old one and the new crop.... but I can tell you that Stingrays are a fine instrument they play extremely well (I've played one but dont own one) and all the owners on here will pretty much swear by theirs!!!! Main Differences are: 1979 model Current Model Neck Joint : 3 bolt - 6 bolt Battery compartment : Metal screw-on plate - Quick clip thingy Bridge : string mutes - no mutes : through body stringing - top loader EQ : only 2 band eq - 2 or 3 band EQ Nut : standard - compensated (better intonation apparently) Made by : Leo Fender - Sterling Ball truss rod adjustment : at the top (allen key) - body end (anything small enough to fit the holes in the wheel) There are others. thesandman Posted June 24, 2007 Share Posted June 24, 2007 There have been lots of changes. One thing the Quality Control on the new ones are great. You can still get a 2 band EQ like the old ones, or get a 3 band as well. Plus there are more pickup options: single humbucker, 2 humbuckers, and a single coil neck pickup with a bridge humbucker. I recently bought a new MM and I'm kicking myself for not getting one years ago. Mind you, I played a handful and didn't get on with them, but the one I bought played great from the start and is now my "number one guy..."
