Hi Dave - No idea it is marked Crafted in Japan 1993/94 according to the Guitar Dater Website. I have never had the bass apart, if it ain't broke don't fix is my motto. I purchased the bass direct from Japan approx 3 years ago and it has never let me down. Apologies for not being able to answer the question in more detail, surely someone will add to the post...

Nice bass....is this a 62US with the alder body and US pups or the basswood body?
I'll put my hat on it being a VSP with special Jap pickups which in my opinion are head and shoulders better than the US pickups fitted to CIJ/US models. It'll either be an alder or sen (Jap ash) body, definitely not basswood.

That's a rare non-catalogue colour, too.... probably an Ishibashi special order or summat like.

Gorgeous basses these... http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/jb62-vsp.html
Have a look in the neck pocket, if it IS a VSP there'll be a JB62VS or JB62-VSP stamp. Or JB62US or just JB62 if it isn't. Your description suggests VSP, but the photo's (non reverse tuners) suggest US.

I have taken pictures showing the Neck Pocket (No Markings I can See) and of the Pickups, I am unable to upload them or any pictures for that matter at the moment - moderators note. I can email them too any interested parties

Hi Mark, I have no idea other than it is much lighter than my old 69 P Bass, a rough guestimate would be around the 8lbs mark

If you want to try it you are more than welcome
