Me and my friends have a made a band and I have just been using a bass amp at the rehearsal studio we go to. They have all been playing for about 5 6 years and me only 6 months. I have been saving up and am now going to go out and get my first amp. The amount I have to spend is around £500-£600 and I use an epiphone thunderbird IV. I am looking into buying a cab and head. We are influenced by bands such as Led Zep, RATM, Nirvana, Muse, Radiohead etc... My first question is what would you advise to buy. Also I was already looking into buying a Gallien Krueger 410RBH for about £350, would you say this is a good price? And what cheapish heads would go well with it.

Here you go, a link to a GK700RBii, in the amps classified section too.

Also a link to the GK manual

Lets pick something from the Clasifieds that may do the job..

What is important..??
power/watts..?? weight..?
Its more the sound I am bothered about it needs to be around 300-500 watts id say (I can always turn the volume down) The head that I was looking at seems to have just been posted on this thread twice also.

Would this work well with the GK 410RBH?

Sure would.

You can also use the bi-amp set up on the full GK rig.

GK gear should get you a nice gritty Muse/ RATM tone also, happy days.

True bi-amp...which isn't what the GK amp actually has, IMO..
is the ability to split the signal and send his and lows to specialist cabs and you need a variable cross-over for this.

Nice idea in theory but not really that useful, when all said and done.
You end up with twice the gear..as you run a stereo rig...for the same power...so hence, marginal gains, if any. IMO.

I'm not sure what "true bi-amp" actually is or how usefull it is, but the Galilien and Krueger 700RBii and the 410 RBH cab are set up already for bi-amp.

All you need to do is to connect them with a 4 core speakon cable, 1-, 1+ for the woofer and 2-, 2+ for the tweeter. You can buy the cable from our very own OBBM on here, http://bassic-bits.co.uk/, 1 metre cable for £20.50.

You can then control the woofer and tweeter independantly.

1 amp, 1 cab, simples.

That 700RB with a 410RBh should be a cracking rig, coupled with your Thunderbird, instant rock-tastic tones.

Agreed !

It's such unanimous BC advice here. The OP is bound to smell a conspiracy !
