5 string tuning.

Both of the 5 string Jazz basses I have had were conventional BEADG.
So was my Hohner B Bass V a million years ago.

My recently acquired TRB5 came to me tuned EADGC.

My first reaction was that I would have to splash out on a new set of string.
Then I thought I would maybe leave it as it was and see how I got on.

I'm quite taken with it actually.

The low B is maybe a bit easy to access ordinarily and it's tempting to hit those low notes.
Not having it, maybe makes me appreciate that a low E is far enough down and a D or C is just fine an octave above that.

Having the high C without needing the 6 string feels quite liberating.

I think I'll be leaving it tuned EADGC in the meantime.
There's always an occasional possibility to drop down to DADGC if required.

Fairly taken with it, it's a lovely bass.

You could try playing some chords in that tuning. There's always the option of fitting a D tuner which would let you tune down at the flick of a switch. Just opens up your options really. Oh, and I hate low B strings. Never heard one that I like. I've had a six string in the past too, TRB6 at that.
