What I love about his playing/soloing is that he can just 'groove'. I prefer Marcus to Victor because his grooves as a sideman as well as soloist are amazing. What I LOVE are the rhythmic elements that he uses whilst slapping, all out percussive.

I don't know if anyone can help me but I'm looking for his bass line to one of his solo works. It is a very melodic 'head' but I can not remmeber the name , only can hum it !

Always a sign of a good tune. :D

Some early Fretless from his younger years - The solo in the middle is a nice easy laid back affair [02.50]

Some of us kinda grew up with listening to Marcus and there is a lot of good stuff around from his early days as just a side man.
There will be plenty of folk along with some great stuff, I am sure of that.

i wish i could get this in higher quality.. his solo to the start of this classic is so good.. you have to turn this up to really hear him soloing..

I remember videotaping this on a late night C4 programme - absolutely loved it. Nice to see "Friends & Strangers" on this thread - it used to be the theme tune to the Robbie Vincent show (can't remember which radio station). This was in the days before I even thought about playing bass - that fretless part is outstanding.

The difference between a player like Marcus and a player like Wooten is the fact that Marcus spent a decade
as one of the top NY studio guys playing everything from jingles to film/tv scores to major pop hits, and it shows
in his playing.
