SOLD - Fender Geddy / BassDoc Fretless Jazz

[s]For sale as I've been to visit Alan in Moffat and have come away having bought one of his basses so I need both cash and to make some space in the house pdq!!

This is for my superb modded Geddy Lee fretless...the story is as follows:
The original Geddy Lee Jazz bass (2001) was modified by its original owner (McGraham) to have an upgraded Schaller bridge, Dimarzio Model J pickups and a fretted Shuker neck, when I got the bass on a trade I sold the neck to Krysh in Hamburg, the ramp to Fretmeister and sent the body (black - alder) to BassDoc.

BassDoc has added a beautiful fretless J neck with Hipshot ultralite tuners which, coupled with the 70's pickup spacing gives a thrilling fretless burp like no other fretless I've ever had, I've gigged it once and it was brilliant! If I could I'd keep this one too...

I've since changed the strapbuttons for schaller straplock ones, I'll leave the Schaller strapbuttons on it and will also include the strap attachments. I'll include a neoprene strap too!

There is also a replacement standard jazz wiring loom with CTS pots and switchcraft jack socket (received from BassDoc) that can be dropped in to replace the modded electrics (it currently has a master volume, a 4 way rotary selector for pickup choice and the usual tone pot, this setup works surprisingly well actually).

The body has a few scars / mojo marks from it's former life (see pics), I've cleaned it up but haven't filled in any of it's paint chips...it comes in a functional but untidy looking warwick rockbag

£500 inc uk shipping - rock bottom price for a superb sounding and playing fretless j!

It's got a set of Labella 760fl flats on it too and they feel amazing, lots nice than the Lakland Joe Osborn flats I put on my Highway One P![/s]

I know matey and thanks for the bump, it's a buyers market at the moment no question about that! I'd be losing money on this at this price but it precisely matches a bill I need to pay, gotta pay the man

If I was to part this out it'd probably go something like this...(prices include UK shipping)

Ebony fretless J neck (incl hipshot ultralite tuners) - £300
Fully loaded Geddy Jazz body (incl all the below) - £300
Geddy Jazz Body (incl control plate, spare wiring loom, neck plate and bolts) - £200
Schaller high mass bridge - £50
Dimarzio Model J Pickups - £80

So it's a steal at £500 inc uk shipping for all of the above isn't it? If someone offers me anything over £450 (inc uk shipping) we've got a deal and I can buy myself a little G&L tribute JB-2 to play with...

Hiya, interested in trade for my Fender Jazz Power Special? Also are you at Moffat tomorrow?

Hiya matey, I'm missing out on moffat this year cos it coincides with my brothers birthday celebrations :-/

I've looked at your jazz a few times and it does look like fun but I've got my eye on a g&l jb-2 so I need to sell really rather than trade unless it's for a jb-2? Anyone?

Do you have any sound clips of the bass, so we can hear it in its full glory?
Oo, good question! I haven't actually...I wonder if I've got the gubbins to produce some...

Well after a couple of hours in front of the pc last night I have concluded that while, yes, I do have the right bits to do the job, no, I don't yet have the wit to get it all to work together! I'll be contacting my pro-engineer mate to see if he can offer some wisdom around getting it all to work...or at worst (best results though) I'll see if I can pop round to his flat and get him to do the recording!

Cheers Andy,
Yes, its a nice bass but I just dont play it, i go to my stingray all the time so's thats the reason for getting (hopefully) a fretless. Completely different then i'd play it for the contrast & also we have a couple of tracks that are begging for a bit of fretless vibe! Its like buying houses at the moment, stuck in a chain! If only..... then I could buy yours & you could get the G&L etc etc.
All the best,
Norm.

So, what does the bass sound like then??
I have no means with which to produce sound samples and my mate is unavailable for assistance just now...it sounds like...

bridge p/up = diamonds on the soles of her shoes if you have the tone up and smoothness with the tone down
both = that jazz quack but with pleasing mwah
neck = nice and thick but still with the fretless character

the ebony neck and dimarzio model j pickups really work well together to bring out that fretless sound!

Hope that helps a bit

Kind of :)
we'll sort out that telephony thing so you can get an idea how it sounds, I really need my sound engineer mate to sort me out with some sound recording capability!

bump for a great guy to deal with.
if the new fretless neck is as good as the fretted one andy sold to me, then this bass is a killer.
Thanks matey, it plays and sounds brilliantly!
