TRADED: Lull PJ5 trade against 5 (or 4) string Jazz of sorts?

I have been going over this for ages now, maybe it's time to get on with it.

I own 2 Mike Lull basses, a V5 and a PJ5. Both are magnificent 5 string renditions of classic tone monsters.

The thing is I am more a J than a P guy, so I tend to use my V5 most of the time and my PJ5 is left behind way too often..... it needs to be cherised.......

Anyone own a 5 string (passive or with good passive option) or even 4 string JB type bass and looking for a Mike Lull PJ5?

Perhaps we can trade....... perhaps ;)

Trade value would be around €1400-1500 or £1150-1200 and I am not looking to spend money on a trade (would actually prefer to trade down a little as the JB will be pretty much a backup to my V5).

UPDATE: To answer a question that someone raised, to sell outright I would be looking at £1300,-. + shipping Not a bad price. Am willing to take a lower trade value... see above.

What springs to mind?

Lulls of course, but also G&L JBs, Lakland DJs, Shukers maybe, a good 4 string Fender Jazz USA, what else u got? Would perhaps entertain the thought of going for a Stingray (my old love), but would prefer a Classic 5 then, or even a Fender Roscoe Beck, just because they're awesome. And you can always try me with whatever else you think I might like.

Strong preference to passive and 35" scale for 5 string.

Some basic pics (DO NOT REALLY DO IT JUSTICE I MIGHT ADD)

A random Youtube vid of a guy playing a passive PJ5:

35" scale

Passive (tone, blend, volume)

I live in NL, but will be in Aberdeen December 6 and 7 and am in Manchester area monthly and London area quarterly.

I bought a PJ5 8 weeks ago and went straight out on tour with it. What an absolute beast of a bass. The sound engineers were jumping for joy. If I had the spare dosh, that would be mine in a heart beat. Mike Lull really does make the best basses IMHO - can't say enough good things about my Lull. Have a bump on me and good luck, not that you need it ;)

Cheers Gents! They truly are a thing of beauty and just sound right. My V5 will never leave me...... and I am starting to wobble a bit on whether I can let the PJ5 go..... had some nice offers for trades, but they will either cost me or are not what I am looking for and I am pretty much fed up with people saying they want to buy and asking for pics and then never follow through.

Might just bang some Nordstrands in her (I prefer Nordstrands over SD Customs) and turn her (have her turned by a luthier of course) into a fretless beast :), that way I have a reason to use them both all the time... ha ha ha.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi Matt, Norwood contacted me about his Usa Spector NSJH5...... I had Spectors for many years and I just could not resist. Not at all what I set out to do, but I am very happy. I now have my Lull V5 for classic and Spector for modern tones which actuallymakes a lot of sense.

Nice one mate and thanks for the update. The Spector basses are very sweet indeed. I'm actually looking at a modern 24 fret active 5 for the very same reason so yes, makes perfect sense. I would still have loved your bass if I could :) Have fun and good luck with all you do bud.

Cheers,

Matt
