Lfalex v1.1 Posted May 23, 2008 Share Posted May 23, 2008 I own a 1990 Musicman Stingray V - Fretless, of course... It has a Maple neck and a Pau Ferro ("Ironwood") Fingerboard. I've had Stainless Steel rounds of one sort or another on it since I bought it in about 2000. Still no real signs of heavy wear. When it comes to a new 'board, it'll be either Ebony or Pau Ferro again. +1 to CK's thoughts on Graphite necks with wooden boards. Whether fretted or fretless, I feel it would be one of the best marriages. The Vigier "Delta" Metal fretless bears some scrutiny, though... Ask Ped about his SIII Passion. SJA Posted May 23, 2008 Share Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) I'd like to have an ebony board- the rosewood board on my Yamaha's getting worn with rounds, and I hate having to clean the board- an ebony board would be smoother, less porous and more gunk-resistant. I notice the Squier VM fretless has a phenolic/ebonol fingerboard- no pores at all- I'll have to try one out. warwickhunt Posted June 14, 2008 Share Posted June 14, 2008 Just taken delivery of a 1990 Warwick Streamer Stage I fretless with Maple neck (wenge stringers) and a (factory) lined ebony board. I'm about to go and open it up to see what the preamp is as it has Barts (fairly certain they are original) and a 3 band EQ with stacked vol/pan in the traditional Warwick pan pot position... very unWarwick. Also, you could try Basslines pickups for fretless - designed by Steve Bailey. They have a pull pot setting for enhancing harmonics.
