Stacker Posted July 29, 2012 Share Posted July 29, 2012 So, I've got a really good relic'd Jazz but I'm not happy withe the profile; it's not period correct. Finally gonna re-shape it but then thought about a soft-V Jazz neck. Some of the '50s P-basses had both soft and hard V but on a Jazz? Any ideas before I get the scrapers out?? It's a really good non Fender stacker Jazz but the neck profile is a bit too 'C' for me so if I was gonna take it back to vintage profile I was thinking about shaping a soft-v just for the hell of it. Stacker Posted August 2, 2012 Author Share Posted August 2, 2012 So, yesterday saw the spokeshave and scrapers coming out, along with the sander and sanding blocks. But as I got into the shaping I sh*t it, and just went for the same profile on my VJ reissues. Light stain mixed in with tung oil and 50% solution white spirit. Chris2112 Posted August 2, 2012 Share Posted August 2, 2012 Some of the old Wal basses had quite a pronounced V shaped neck, some slightly less so - they generally all feel a bit different! I've got 2 Strats with soft-V and a Tele with hard-V. One of the Strats is a Jap 40th Anniv and is my fav guitar neck.
