So have been looking into getting one of the Jap non export 62 ri jazz basses (gassing for one in sonic blue) and came across this beast which I've never seen or heard anyone mention before....

Anyone have any experience of these? I wonder what they play/sound like?
Seems a little steep price wise for Jap electronics/hardware but still....that natural finish is beautiful!

Whilst I'm here, can anyone give me a rough price for import from Japan? any wierd hidden customs charges I'm likely to incur?

Dave

ps.....sorry that link doesn't take u to the page....navigate to the Jazz bass section, it's the JB/HO!

I am seriously tempted by it!....I do find it interesting that Fender Japan do so many different varieties/takes on Fender basses whilst USA seem to just re hash stuff!

Fender Japan is official fender still right?! (is that a stupid question)!?

At the risk of sounding a bit dim, what kind of differences does a semi-hollow body make to the sound (other than I guess more acoustic volume)? :)

I can't say from 1st hand experience of basses ...... but I have a couple of solid Gibson guitars and a hollow Gibson (an SG, a Les Paul, and an ES335) they ALL have the same exact same pickups and hollow bodied ES has a sort of woodier thicker tone ....almost as if there is a miniscule amount of delay added.

I guess if a bass did the same thing it would be wicked.

Mmm. Sounds good! I'd love to try one with some flatwounds!

I'm not sure if they're allowed ship new ones abroad though.
When Japanese companies don't send all or certain products abroad, there may be a cheap, nifty solution:
White Rabbit Express.
http://whiterabbitexpress.com/

They're owned by White Rabbit
http://www.whiterabbitjapan.com/

and state that they "specialize in Japan-only products".

To use this service, you either give them a link to the product and ask them to buy it for you, or you get a Japanese address from them, and use that address when ordering. Upon receiving the product, White Rabbit sends it to you.

We've used White Rabbit Express for small stuff, and find they're a dependable company. I don't know how expensive it will be for a bass though.
