I'm heading back to Australia soon so need to sell my gear! Always kept on stand or in hard case. Serviced twice, input jack replaced recently from The Bass Gallery in Camden. I'm looking for £450.00 (Negotiable) as I paid more than this from eBay 1.5 years ago (paid £565)!!! From research RRP appears to be £1200.00(approx). I'm completely unfamiliar with the Carvin brand... looking at the pickup arrangement I guess this would have characteristics similar to a Jazz and/or MM stingray? What do the various controls do? shanelondon Posted June 7, 2012 Author Share Posted June 7, 2012 Hi Conan, I feel the same, it's quite hard to find a lot of information on this series, however there is a page with plenty of nice examples and standard specs here: [url="http://www.carvinmuseum.com/instockarchive/xb75.html"]http://www.carvinmuseum.com/instockarchive/xb75.html[/url] Tone wise I you're pretty spot on there, however having the Musicman style pickup near the bridge (as opposed to the 'sweet spot' on the stingrays) means it's more like a jazz bass on steroids, very punchy and clear. You can get thunky p-bass like tone by favoring the neck pickup, modern hip hop like tone by using an even split (That's what I used for my funk band), or Jaco-like tone by using the bridge pickup. I just discovered from reading up that if you pull the volume knob you have a passive bass! Never knew that....useful for recording I suppose. They also have piezo bridge saddles (I suppose that's what the P stands for on the XB75-P). My understanding of the controls is: Master Volume Pickup selector/mix knob Switch for piezo on/off and corresponding knob for frequency range/mix (This is my best explanation of what this does - kind of sounds like a sweepable mid but I'm really not sure) Bass, Mid, Treble along the bottom row. 18v Active Circuitry (Pull volume knob for passive) I would consider posting it as it has a hard case and there is a lot of advice about posting it on this forum. Bought in the states and imported by me when I moved back. If so it also has the offset neck profile. I can vouch for it's lovely-ness. I believe you are correct as I do still have the original spare set of strings with that monster F#....when I bought it however there was already a new (standard) nut on it with standard strings.
