18" speakers

These Carvins interest me as they resemble the shape of my old Vox Westminster cabinets. The vox cabs were extra heavy 1" particle board and rear-ported. The Carvins aren't even .75" plywood, but I want a couple. But,I know better now and will stick with 10's!

I had a Vox Foundation 2x18 when I was a kid. I wish I still had it. I can't remember what it sounded like, and I'd probably refit it with a 15" and a couple of 10s, or something, but it looked lovely.

It was the big one from this page:

I paid £20 for it and it came with a 30m lead.

Having fooled around with mostly 15's but also one 18 these post make sense- especially the earwax. I've never needed cotton buds since that Zep concert. Might be worth doing some research on the guy who used to make Jaco's speakers (18's I believe) a Steve Rabe. He wanted to prove to a highly sceptical and conservative load of bass players (shurely not!!) the there was a better way to make a low end.

I found this a good thread. Thanks

a tight, punchy, slap & pop high-end.

Freq. Resp: 30 to 2K Hz -3dB

Those statements are diametrically opposed.

Reading the entire blurb they seem to promising all things to all people. However, considering those frequency response figures I'd like to hear a high end pop and slap from it. Perhaps the person who wrote it has a different definition of 'high end'. :)

He used 301's... but never needed much high end gliss... that just wasn't in the game at that time.

And Steve Rabe brought out a very respected bass monitor system which blew everything else out of the water at the time..pretty much.

The singer sounds like the guy from Stories... both bass players too (same guy?). And I dig the fat 'bump' of those 18s...
