Fingerboard: Roll your own?

Recommended Posts

After owning it for a few months, I have finally got around to rolling the lower edge of the fingerboard on my Squier Jaguar short scale using the 'stubby screwdriver' technique - compress the wood between each pair frets with the side of the blade to round of the edge. This instantly made it feel like a more expensive bass.

Who else does this to their basses & what's your technique?

Yup, done it for years, to the point I find it almost uncomfortable to use those crazily sharp edges on your average fretboard. Someone call health and safety! I use a small flat file to to the basic rounding and then a couple of fine grades of sandpaper to smooth the whole thing. I do both sides though, for tone.
