Effects Advice

Hi all,

OK, so I need some pointers on distortion . overdrive . fuzz. Basically I have always either relied on the drive on an amp, or gone for a BDDI in the past. However, my HD 350 needs some help to get the right sound, and I don't know where to start.

About half our set requires a nice driven bass sound - think sounds ranging from Killers, through to a slightly more aggressive drive. Another great sound I need to get is like the Ash song Burn Baby Burn.

So, what do I need to get these- recommend away please!

Chris

Distortion: Proco Rat (original, whiteface reissue, and turbo all work great)
Overdrive: Darkglass B7K, best preamp/od ever.
Fuzz: Iron Ether Oxide

Check 'em out. These are my personal favorites.

The Proco Whiteface Rat Reissue is the best guitar distortion ever created,
so I would assume it would sound awesome on bass. However, Justin Chancellor
of Tool uses a Turbo Rat with a midrange boost from an EQ for that famously gritty
sound, so choose what you like best. Youtube is your friend.

I for one think that the Lomenzo sounded awful. Adding a bandpassed distorted midrange in with your clean signal sounds artificial and you end up with low end loss since you have to have to turn the clean level down to keep the same volume.

I say VT Bass if you want the sound of an overdriven amp, or a B3K if money is no object, or Behringer BDI21 if pennies are in short supply.
