The problem is, the more I look at their site the more customised I want to make the bass, and the price goes up. I've tried out a Yamaha TRB6P from the first series made (slightly shorter scale) to see how I might get on with an extended range instrument. I liked the extended range but found the scale still didn't suit me. Still, a worthwhile experiment. Easily one of the finest instruments I have laid hands on. I just keep on getting chicken when it comes to instruments that are customised or non-production. It's so much easier to sell a production instrument if there's something I don't like, and I'm still learning about what exactly it is I like in an instrument, even after all these years. I find it hard to think of parting with the money for a custom and getting it wrong. Doing a big band gig tonight with my Fender JB62-M, my medium scale (32") jazz, and every time I pick it up it just feels 'right'. It's absolutely great with the preamp (J-Retro) in there. No-one ever seems to notice in a band/gig context whether the scale length of the bass makes much odds, and it says 'Fender' on it so everyone is familiar/comfortable with that. I have found a 30" production 6 string for sale that I am discussing with the seller. I see what you mean with regards to your bass situation, it would be madness to go down a customised route if knowing you weren't entirely sure what you need/want. I personally have done that, maybe to a lesser degree as I've got along, and it's an expensive process. I've definitely settled on 33" these days, don't see me trying anything else now, if I could've justified keeping my ol' Shuker Jazz I would've but finances dictated otherwise, I'll be ordering a more old school styled 33" 4 string at some point again. If you're keen to try a shorter 6 string, then I would certainly give that Rondo Music one a go, not a huge gamble case wise, they get fairly favourable reviews over on Talkbass, and if you decided to sell, even on here, I reckon you'd get a few bites out of curiosity, me being one If you do get round to it, I think Maruszczyk would do you a 30" 6 string Jazz, so you might be able to sneak that past the other Jazzers Cheers, Eude Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There turns out to be quite a range of them with a variety of models and scale lengths, some being 32" and others being 33". Yamaha Japan's website is a really interesting read. Audiokostas Posted October 19, 2012 Share Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) Once it is ressurected, I'll give my two p on the 32s Being been down that (rather neglected road) road of 32s for quite some time know, I' ve owned a few of them ([b]Fender JP-535 Jazz Special[/b], [b]Fender Stu Hamm[/b], [b]Aria TSB-400[/b]) and still own three ([b]SX[/b], [b]Squier [/b]MIJ & [b]Landing[/b]) I've tried the [b]Status Mark King[/b] (just gorgeous), [b]Kubicki X factor[/b], [b]Burns Marquee[/b] and an [b]Alembic [/b](!!!!) I am addicted to them. I am very fond of funkle's [b]JB-62M[/b] and shame I did not get that gorgeous [b]Fender JBR-80 [/b]when I had the chance. The playability of 32s for those finger-challenged bassists is unparalleled. Nothing to lose and everything to gain. No 5ers though I am afraid. Handling 4 strings is quite challenging for me as it is .... If I had the money though and wanted a 32 5er, I would probably get in contact with Jimmy in Landing basses (dedicated to short & medium scale basses) and talk to him about what I need. Great guy Jimmy and eager to please. Although awaiting for a finished project from him requires Buddhist monk patience, I would say that the result is more than rewarding. And I am not saying that just because I' m a proud owner of an [b]L32[/b]. On the other hand, I do believe that there are too many European luthiers that, given the opporunity, would create marvelous MS basses. Considering that orders to them are getting sparser now with the crisis would be probably mutally beneficial... No, there were a few different models of the MB basses I was looking for but this wasn't one. Actually, I have found the Dingwall Super J very comfortable to play and eased my problems with left hand tendinitis. The mixed 34.25" - 32" scale seems ergonomic and sounds great.
