Blademan_98
Can I just point out that if no one buys new, then the companies selling basses will go out of business and all the second hand basses will eventually all disintergrate and the will be no more basses I have bought one new bass and two second hand, just to keep the balance
KiOgon
More good reasons for new above ^^^^^^^ I've only bought 1 brand new & it was because no decent examples at what I thought a reasonable 2nd hand price came along in the 6 months I was looking for one, also the dreaded VAT increase in January swayed me to get in early. Most of all though because I wanted a very specific model, that I will only buy once & I wanted it to be right! Factory fresh & untouched 'as much as possible'. I found exactly what I wanted - Fender American Vintage '57 Precision, White Blonde - at £200 less than most places so I pressed the button. I would have liked to walk into a shop, slapped my wedge on the counter & said 'I want that one' but none of the shops around here had or could get what I wanted at the time. Not to mention it was a special treat - present to myself for my 60th birthday
Mykesbass
I would have liked to walk into a shop, slapped my wedge on the counter & said 'I want that one' but none of the shops around here had or could get what I wanted at the time.
Catch 22 here - if you take the view of some other posters here, why should the shops have stuff hanging up for people to see/play/buy when so many want their bass fresh out of the box, untouched by others? Sorry, but this keeps cropping up, and as a (failed & former) small independent music shop owner this is a bit of a bugbear - previous threads have implied that shops should have a wide range of basses for people to go and try but when it comes to purchase, there should be a fresh boxed one at the same price as the lowest internet deal
dumelow
I think of it like this; would you rather marry a virgin or the old village bicycle? Yeah sure you know what your getting with the latter and quite a lot of people can recommend it but marrying a virgin is something special that doesn't happen often.
