chrismuzz Posted March 2, 2011 Share Posted March 2, 2011 I've been experimenting with my SansAmp recently, and I'm trying to get a serviceable fuzz sound from one. Only thing is, when I play fast the notes aren't reproduced properly, it seems quieter, with hardly any sustain, and makes me sound really sloppy and uneven. When I play clean I sound like I can play a lot better. I just wondered if this is something to do with the sansamp pedal not being designed for fuzz. Or maybe my technique isnt as good as i thought it was? Sorry if I haven't explained what i mean well enough lol Cheers for reading though! Basically the Sansamp isnt a fuzz pedal and thats most likely why its not sounding right to you. You should check out the big muffs, particularly the bass version which is a good price new. DanOwens Posted March 3, 2011 Share Posted March 3, 2011 To get a fuzz sound out of a BDDI you're adding so much gain that its driving the distortion into fuzz-esque clipping. With a circuit not designed for this I imagine you're boosting finger noise and the overall noise-floor so it's just not clean. I concur with the above recommendations regarding a dedicated fuzz pedal. FuzzFace variant, Mastotron or Swollen Pickle would be my choice. chrismuzz Posted March 3, 2011 Author Share Posted March 3, 2011 I tend to dial in a lot of midrange on my head to make up for the scooped tone on the sansamp, i think i'll try twiddling the blend knob on my distortion preset to see if i can make an improvement. chrismuzz Posted March 8, 2011 Author Share Posted March 8, 2011 My friend gave me his Marshall Jackhammer pedal the other day. My search for fuzz has instantly ended. This thing is spot on! Anything from tasteful grind to pure filth (pure filth is what i was after, obviously!) without it sounding muddy. I strongly recommend picking one up, as they're well priced too!
