warwickhunt Posted January 22, 2011 Share Posted January 22, 2011 I've been promoting my new band via my personal Facebook account but it isn't ideal due to work regulations (it is 'recommended' that if staff do use FB then it is used with maximum security and limited to friends viewing info and photos, not worth debating as I can see the reasoning and in principle I agree). As a result I've created a page which is linked to my personal Facebook account; this seems OK but the tabs that I have available seem far inferior to other local bands (I've looked through the available tabs and I can't add say a Bandpage which some have) and I'm finding it difficult to invite people to 'like' the page without sending a request to befriend me through my personal account... does that make sense? What I'd like is a bit of guidance/advice on the best way to utilise Facebook as a tool to attract people to my band page, which will in turn keep folk informed of our gigs etc! 3V17C Posted January 22, 2011 Share Posted January 22, 2011 you can add a 'my band' tab via reverbnation which will then have audio/videos/gig dates etc whatever you put on it... having said that, mine did mysteriously disappear from my profile recently. risingson Posted January 22, 2011 Share Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) Agreed with Musky, I find Reverb Nation to be a bit of a pain and it doesn't integrate as well with a band's Facebook page as well as BandPage, it's slow and annoying. One of them (http://www.facebook.com/thecaffreys) has a non-3rd party music player on it, but I think it's been withdrawn to new users for some reason... 'tis a shame. It looks like Reverbnation or similar is the way to go. Other things to be aware of, IMO: Set the default landing page to be the Wall, rather than the General Info page. Try and encourage chat. Set the wall to show posts by both yourself and other users (I think it defaults to show your own posts only). Try and keep the quality of media to a decent standard (no washed-out snapshots with a flash, or dodgy videoclips). of course this is tricky if you leave the wall open to all. Also, bear in mind that if you bombard people with too much, there's a danger they'll unlike you. With this in mind, here's the the golden rule: Content and interaction are king, but don't overdo it!
