Singing strings...

Um, could I just ask, I'm getting enough money for Christmas to finally buy a fretless and I was wondering if people could give any suggestions for some strings for a good fretless sound. I'm kinda looking mainly for a jazzy, Jaco style tone but maybe a bit more lyrical but at the end of the day any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Mwah is better with rounds than flats imo. I find Elixir coated give more of a sweet singing sound than normal rounds. The coating seems to take the aggressive edge off, but they're still full of harmonics.

This will depend on the quality of the bass and the set-up, IMV...

You might also want to stay away from the bassier type strings

And on the topic of setup, having very little neck relief is helpful for mwah too.

For a Jaco style tone you want a Jazz Bass with Roundwounds.

I think its gonna be a Cort Artisan series B4FL or sommin, so nothing special and I've got a mate who can set stuff you brilliantly, so it'll be probably be a low action.

Probably roundwounds for the sound you want but they can damage the fingerboard if you're a bit heavy handed with your fretting.

Coated Elixirs as mentioned before might help save the board a bit plus they last for ages.
