Basszilla
Both, if possible. Gives you more bass girth out front
woodenshirt
Preferably, both for me - DI'd and an AKG D112 (is there a better bass mic?). Mart Edited June 2, 2007 by woodenshirt
JPJ
Live = DI straight to desk, from amp so after compression. Recording = Mike off-axis for a big full sound [quote name='woodenshirt' post='11228' date='Jun 2 2007, 11:34 PM']Preferably, both for me - DI'd and an AKG D112 (is there a better bass mic?). elros
After I started using the Roland V-Bass, I go DI both live and in the studio. Great sound, no hassle. No, really. I'm very happy with it.
slaphappygarry
DI out back of ampeg with something close to the cone (usually a D112) and something a bit further back (condensor, usuallt a 414 or Nuemann if i am lucky enough to have one) for a fuller roomier sound. These are mixed and brought up at differant levels for differant tracks to suit. If a slap part or melody or whatever kicks in the di goes up and the room comes down and if its just beef i am after vice versa. Generally for demo's and quick stuff i just DI for simplicity. fragility
Mics ideally, but for home recording, DI all the way!!
