1. Hi mate and welcome, I used to work near Tamuff, in Atherstone...... Yeah, you go for it, stick them fingers up...... it's very true about simple basslines, sometimes they are the best (not always.... I know it depends on the music..... but they can be). Tell you what, thinking about it, I've been getting away with the simple stuff for years (well sort of....) And definitely have fun.... if you don't enjoy what you're doing, others probably won't as well. Nice looking bass, by the way. Mart
2. Welcome....... I love the video by the way, looks like you guys have a lot of fun. Mart.
3. Welcome Jack, What kind of music do you play? Covers or own music? Mart
4. Hello Jack and welcome. Do you play covers or is it your own music that you do? I've never used SWR gear, but it sounds like you can shift some air with the rig you've got. Mart
5. Fantastic stuff. Your music is a million miles away from what I do, but I absolutely love it. Well done to all concerned...... Mart.
6. Twice. Both in 1976 and using a pick. A dodgy Shaftesbury bridge the culprit. Not broken one since. Mart
7. Very good,,,,,,, so catchy mate........ I loved it. Put a smile on my face and a spring in my step. Mart
8.
Stevie, enjoy your plate! And welcome to the BA55 club. Trouble is, on this forum as elsewhere personal plates seem to send some people into paroxysms of anguish. I'm sure the majority will support your purchase so ignore the naysayers, go out and enjoy.
+1 By the way my Reg. is: BA55 FAN Mart
9. The best..... Peavey TNT 150 or Peavey Combo 300. During the the 90's I had one of each and linked them together, bleedin' awesome!! Mart
10. Ben, Well I bleedin' love it. Very catchy...... it's stuck in my head and it won't go away!! Great musicianship, sound, arrangement and a killer bass tone. Well done mate, Mart
11. Sounds great to me....... absolutely love your bass sound mate (I'm a massive fan of the SPB3 pickups - I've got some on a couple of my Precisions). Which Sansamp was it and what settings did you use? Mart
12. I really love this Lozz, it reminds me of so many great bands from the late seventies early eighties. Terrific stuff mate..... great sound. Love the bass sound! Mart
13. My opinion, for what it's worth (not really a Maiden fan, I play with a pick etc. etc.) It sounds good to me. Playing seems pretty spot on and if you're trying to achieve the Harris live sound, your close.... plenty of clankiness (wasn't the studio sound a bit more rounded.... compressed?) I take it that you are using big fat roundwound strings (preferably Rotosound SH signature). Nice one mate, Mart
14. I'll have a "P" please Bob. When it comes to gigs it's got to be a Precision, because I'm a big bloke with big paws (neck profile is better for me), plus a P Bass suits the kind of music I'm playing at the moment (Rock and Blues). Also being a pick player,IMHO, a Precision sounds better with a piece of plastic.... By the way, at home, I'll will mess about on a Jazz (as well as a Stingray) Mart
15.
i would rather watch my cat have a sh*t.
Is that on Channel 5? Mart
16. Is anybody going to be watching The Eurovision Song Contest tonight? I usually watch it, but this year I'll be definitely watching it because I know Jake Shakeshaft who is one half of Joe and Jake (the UK entry with the song "You're Not Alone"). If you didn't know, they met on "The Voice" when they appeared on the show last year and have done rather well for themselves since (a nice deal with Sony records as well as the Eurovision gig) Jake's sung with my band "Start The Car" at a couple of practices, a few years ago (before his fame). He's a great bloke, with a fantastic voice...... he did an amazing version of Dakota by The Stereophonics at one practice (he can really belt out those rock numbers). Also we did a gig with him at a charity event, when he did a great set - just him with his acoustic - you could tell he had something about him. I think the song that they will be singing tonight is very catchy and should do well. But they may not do that well, because let's face it, they are representing the UK and we don't always get that many points for some reason - was it something we said or did? I know we in the UK can't vote for them, but if any of you Euro Bassists out there could vote for them, that would be great - just thought I'd ask. Do you guys think they have got any chance? Anyway, I thought I'd just ask if you were going to watch it just to see if someone says..... "You're not alone", because I'm watching it. Good luck Joe and Jake! Mart
17. Hi Steve, Before I looked at your videos I thought that coming from Michigan you guys were probably going to play some Soul..... but out came the Blues. Sounded good to me. But, what's with the Baseball on the TV while you're playing...... does that always happen. Can't they turn it off when a band's playing? Mart
18. I voted for No. 2...... a more defined sound to my old ears. By the way, not my kind of music but I do like it, nice one! Mart
19. Watched it last night. Great show that brought back so many memories. Loved Lee's bass playing...... Thanks for the heads up lads! Mart
20. Thanks for the link Skankdelvar. Mick Green is my all time guitar hero, I'm a massive Pirates fan. I saw the band on several occasions and even in the latter years they always put on a great show. Mick was a great guy to talk to as well, a real genuine nice bloke, who was always willing to have a chat. Truly unique. Mart
21.
Steely Dan tribute band, Nearly Dan, are playing at Alexander's Wine Bar in Chester on Thursday 26 Feb. Tickets limited to 120. www.alexanderslive.com
Pete, I'll let my sister know mate Hope you have a good one. Mart
22. Like a few have said already, I sing Alright Now so it gives me the opportunity during the verse to grab the mic on the stand and do a bit of posing - so it doesn't really bother me. However, in the past when I've not sung and just played bass, during the verse I have mouthed the lyrics as though I was singing along, waved my arms around, jumped around like a loony and generally tried to get the audience to join in - thank God I sing it nowadays! Mart
23. My favourite rig was one that I used between 1977 and 1979. It was a Davoli (anybody remember those Italian amp builders?) 100 watt valve head and a battered old no name cab with a Fane 18" speaker. With the 1975 Precision I was using at the time, it gave an absolutely awesome sound - a very filthy, punky kinda noise that really suited the music we were doing at the time. It's funny how both the amp and cab were bought from junk shops for next to nothing (due to lack of funds at the time) and I ended up with such a great sound. Unfortunately both the Davoli and The Fane died many years ago - still miss them both though! Mart
24. Absolutely fantastic news. i love this guy and his music.
25. They say he was only paid £27 for the Baker Street session. Mart
