danweb22
Was thinking of getting one of these for my Squier CV P bass, so 2 questions; 1. Which model do I need to fit the Squier CV? and..... 2. I want to use it so I can drop to C, has anyone else tried it with this tuning and does it work OK with normal gauge strings? Many thanks in advance!! Dan Edited October 25, 2010 by danweb22
WalMan
Sorry can't help with your questions - mines on the Wal and I only drop to D (or I suppose C# as we detune a semitone) and I've not had problems with standard gauges. But they are a great bit of kit IMO
The Burpster
I thiink pushing it down to C might be beyond it. You will need a larger gauge than you are used to to get the tone. Model I cant tell you without a pic of your Squire. All 5 of my PRSs have them on now and great bits oif kit....
AttitudeCastle
As its a squier you'll need to drill new mouting holes for the plate, And they now do a double drop one which can go from E to C/C# to B its crazy! C should be fine your using at least 105/110 to be not *too* muddy
WalMan
I thought they had always advertised them as being able to go down to B? I'm sure I recall something on those lines when I got mine for the Wal about 20 years ago.
yorick
Depending on the length of the shaft going to the "lollipop" part you'll need the BT1 or BT2. Ideally you'd need to drop tune the whole bass a tone to get down to C with the D-Tuner.
danweb22
cheers everyone, I think people say the BT1 is a direct replacement?
Doddy
You can drop down to B if you want to. Matt Garrison and Janek Gwizdala both do this with theirs.
Faithless
[quote name='Doddy' post='1007529' date='Oct 31 2010, 06:32 PM']You can drop down to B if you want to. (it should become some sort of 'sausage', innit?) And, other thing - I barely imagine myself playing in the following tuning: B A D G C.... Am I missing something here? The Burpster
I love mine for playing drop D (which is kinda what they were designed for) which is a common tuning for rock and blues. I knda go with Faithless here in that going down further reuires a proper set up IMHO and surely it would be easier - more sensible just using a 5 string. Also the reorientation of fignering for dropD isnt that stressful to get around but would be a complete mind frick for anything lower, plus all the potential intonation and relief issues .....
