1. Problem solved. It was the tapered B strings. As soon as I switched to a non-tapered string, viola, rattle gone. My sanity has been restored!!
2. So how many pots is yours? I actually just ordered the following Vol, Blend, Bass/Treble Stacked, Mid / Mid Freq stacked = 4 pots. But will cancel the order if yours is like this!
3. Thanks so much for all the suggestions peeps! It very well might be the tuner, but no amount of holding it or tightening it makes a difference. That description of it sounding like a snare rattle is spot on. That's what it sounds like. The saddle screws are fine. I will check later but presumably the tuners can be interchanged? If so, I'll swap the B tuner with another and see if that solves it. The nut is Just-a-nut III (brass), probably unlikely any issue there. I did bung a bit of paper underneath but it made no difference. I was playing through a practice amp yesterday and it sounded very noticeable, so it's only at full volume it gets "lost" in the noise of rock
4. I did consider that, but I've been making truss rod adjustments to straighten the neck lately and each time it hasn't made any difference to the noise.
5. Got a problem on my Warwick Corvette Std 5 string that is starting to drive me nuts. There is a rattle that sounds like a loose part is vibrating whenever the B string is struck, particularly on the Open B. All the other strings are fine. I only noticed it when recording direct to DAW because it's quite subtle, but now I can't help but notice whenever playing through headphones or acoustically. I have tried every obvious remedy: - string is wound fine, from top to bottom, no overlaps - string is straight with no twists - all string posts and machine heads are tight - saddle is aligned - no difference when nut or action is raised - tried 2 brands of B string; Warwick EMP (.135) and Sadowski Blue (.130). The EMPs have less ring but it's still there. Boith have tapered ends - could this be the issue? I have owned this bass for 8 years and never noticed it before. To be clear - it is only noticeable when playing acoustically or through headphones when every squeak can be heard. Through an amp, it's inaudible. The Sadowski strings are quite new so I don't want to chuck them in the bin. The EMPs were extremely disappointing, the tone went dead nearly right away, although the B did have a lot of guts. My only next avenue is try a non-tapered set. Unless anyone has a suggestion to make? I can upload a sound file to demonstrate if needed. Cheers Mike
6. Seems this one is a slow mover here, so I've reluctantly taken it to auction on flea bay. Auction ends 11 Feb 20:23pm. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SubDecay-Echobox-Delay-for-Guitar-Bass-NO-RESERVE-not-Boss-/221679092881? Here's your chance to score a bargain.
7. I prefer the Tech 21 Bass VT over the BDDI, more mid control and sounds more warm and natural. To my ears the BDDI was a bit clanky and metallic. Just my 2p
8. Yep it's a beauty, still available people!
9. price dropped to £105 posted
10. Excellent condition, boxed with instruction sheet. Very natural smooth delay and fantastic modulation effects. Velcro on the back for attaching to a pedal board. Blurb from manufacturer below. " The sound of the Subdecay Echobox Delay Effect Pedal is somewhere between a digital and analog delay, but without the coldness of the the typical digital delay, or sometimes "icky" artifacts heard with analog delays. The repeats degrade each time they are recycled, but without any clicking or popping often caused by "noise reduction" compandor circuits in older delays. Instead the Echo Box uses a discrete noise reduction circuit designed from the ground up. Natural decay mode allows the echo effect to naturally trail off after being bypassed (with this feature off, the pedal is true bypass). The modulation can be turned completely off, add just a little tape like warble, or push your tone to near insanity. Delay time is around 800ms. Infinite repeats are possible, and the scaling of the repeat knob can be altered via an internal trimpot. Check out the Echobox." 12. Gotta come clean. I put £900 on this auction on the last minute, but the app on my phone froze so it didn't go through. You got lucky indeed matey How does she sound?
13. Got a loose jack and need to tighten the nut but can't seem to fit a spanner in the cavity, there's not enough room (it's a Warwick Corvette). Tried a set of needle nose pliers but to no avail. Is a deep socket drive + ratchet the only other option, if so what size do I need? Cheers
14. Yeah sorry. Don't have the original box and I'm not home during the day to take a courier collection.
15. Up for grabs is 2 x Tannoy Reveal 5a active monitors. I bought these last September and they've only seen light bedroom use. Price is [s]£110[/s] £115 DELIVERED including mains cables (add £18 for the pair of TRS cables ). I also have for sale 2 x 3mtr Van Damme Tour grade Classic XKE balanced lead cables with neutrik connectors, [s]£24[/s] £18 for the pair if bought with speakers. Excellent condition. Bought last September (£18.37 new each), only seen light bedroom use. http://www.amazon.co...0?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Now, more on these fine little monitors.... Purchased second hand in Sept 2013, I have looked after them well, but there were a couple of wear & tear issues they came with: - 3 x scuffs to the laminate of the cabinet joints, see photos - One of the standby buttons (the logo at the front of the cab) is affixed by blue tack to hold it in place as it has come loose and part of the foam tape broke off. Not the most robust button design but it works fine and the unit is otherwise totally sound! These are nearfield monitors and positioned correctly in a room, the sound is strikingly detailed & clear. I researched many other speakers before settling on these and they didn't let me down. Only reason for sale is that my set up has changed and I'm now running passive Tannoy monitors through my Marantz hifi (to the dismay of my neighbours). 16. Thanks for the input all. I will qualify my statement by saying the other strings sound fantastic in said region. Very warm and powerful. Ben Shepherd and Nick Olivieri are two players that spring to mind. Its nothing about virtuosity bur rather the timbre and presence. The neck I believe might be a jazz neck...it messures about 34mm at the nut. I love this bass but the lack of guts on the upper end of the E is limiting for my playing style, the frets have been levelled and polished and the action is spot on all the way up.
17. Does anyone else find the frets 12 - 15 on the E string sound rather quiet and muted compared to the other strings? I'm wondering if this is something inherent in other P basses, or could it be just mine (has an aftermarket neck). Cheers
18. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. Yeah, the SD is aggressive and that's why I like it, understandably not suitable fo everything. I've heard the nord is warmer, how would you describe it? I need to retain that midrange growl and bite.
19. 10 years ago I had a Stingray 5 built to my specs with a piezo bridge and I later put an SD basslines alnico 3-coil pup in it. It went into storage in 2006 when I moved to London. More on the SD pup - the tone was great but not clean at all - the signal distorted and farted all over the place, from irritating to unbearable depending on the settings. The tech who installed it wasn’t able to figure it out. We speculated the piezo pickups might be playing a role. It drove me nuts not being able to find a solution hence being in storage for so long. Fast forward to today – I opened up the electronics cavity and turned down the mini gain pot. Limited success – most of the distortion is gone but so is all the head room. Much cleaner tone but very weak output. Wondering if anyone would have any advice how to move forward with this. If I were to install a new preamp, what would be suitable, given that it’s a 3-coil with a 3-way switch and piezo bridge (5 knobs). Not sure if a John East system would be compatible. Not that bothered if I lose the piezo, a bit beyond caring now. Just want this bass in working order! If I could buy another original 3 coil MM pup I would, but that is a rare commodity and go for ludicrous prices on eBay....and I'd know, because I sold one
