So, looking at a Jazz for my first 'proper' bass. Question is, should I fork out £900 for a MIA? Are they really that much better than the MIJ/MIM? And will I be able to tell the difference? Might keep the peace indoors if I only spend £500!

So, just congratulating myself on getting the 144 rock pace, and my long awaited 'rock bass cover' book arrives with The ace of spades in it, which is all I've ever wanted to play! Suggested metronome setting? 288! How in the name of Lemmy am I going to get that fast?

I've always liked those car acrostics - like Fiat = fix it again Toni, or found in a tip, and my favourite - Lotus = lots of trouble, usually serious. So I thought it might be fun to try some bass ones (of course, I could be wrong!) So here's a couple to kick off with- Fender - frequently excellent, never disastrous, enormously respected Gibson - genuinely iconic, but somehow overlooked now bit lame, I know, but let's see what ya got!

I can play - a bunch of scales and arpeggios, the beginning bits of - paranoid, iron man, seven nation army, satisfaction, that bit from the chain , the beginning of badge - but not one whole song! What's the first whole song you guys learned? Andy
