1. I have an MIJ '54 Strat from the early '90s and it is a stunningly good instrument. It plays better than any other Strat I've tried; but I didn't rate the pups much either. They were USA Custom Shop '50s pups and original to the guitar. They were a bit too weak and lacked definition. After much research I settled on a new set of Lindy Fralin Hot Vintage pups with the base plate under the bridge pup, plus a rewire to allow the bridge pup to be included in all settings (via push/push pot for bridge pup tone control). The base plate under the bridge pup makes it sound fatter. These upgrades have retained all the classic sounds of a vintage Strat, plus they offer a hotter signal to push amp, and it throws in a Tele option via the rewired push/push switch. Above all, those over-wound Lindy Fralin pups are fatter sounding and offer much more definition than the standard USA Fender pups. I know this isn't a humbucker set up; but it definitely kicks out more fat heat when required and is a good way of retaining the original character of a great guitar that is already considered a classic by many.
2. Hi I am selling this custom Copilot pedal that I bought on here about 9 months ago. I always knew it wouldn't work for my musical projects, but couldn't resist owning it for a while for some sonic fun.....and this thing delivers in spades. It is basically an acid trip in a box! SOLD SOLD SOLD It is in fact two Copilot pedals in one...an Antenna and an Android. The Android is a nice ring modulator with some custom additions and the Antenna is a drone or tremelo lo-fi mess-up lunacy device; both sides of this pedal use carrier voltages. You can run each side on its own too. The jack sockets on the sides are for expression pedals to control both sides of the unit. I reckon these owuld be even more fun and add more musical possibilities. The nut/collar on one of the expression jack sockets doesn't fit well - I knew it was like this when I bought it. It doesn't really make much difference once you've put the jack in; but you might want to get a new collar for a few pennies, if you want to gig this pedal. I have added a map I made to try and make some sense of this much madness. NB. Warning though, this pedal will freak your dog/cat out. PM me with your email address and I will send you an mp4a demo of this Antdroid. I am asking the price I paid for it and am not really interested in trades or offers. You can do cash on collection from Nottingham for the £90 or I will courier it to you in UK for an extra £5. Payment by bank transfer is preferred if you want me to courier it.
3. got my 501 too....looks just like yours, Mr Kiwi...in excellent condition mine has the original GEC KT77s and the Mazda pre-amp tubes too....luverly one like this went for £675 on eBay a few weeks ago!!
4. still no wiser as to what this actually does......maybe I'm a bit thick! how can you emulate different speakers without any controls? Or if it is fixed to emulate one speaker at fixed tone/gain/volume, what is it trying to emulate? am I being thick?! more explanation please... thanks BN62
5. sorry, just sold it. if it falls thru for any reason; I'll let you know
6. Bump, bump, bump me up!
7. Just scored an immaculate Burman 501 1x12 guitar combo that sounds better than anything I've ever heard and it's a heavy bugger. I would love to hear a Burman 4000 bass head and cab. I bet you could knock the Sun off its perch with one of those.
8. Now sold to a man with googly eyes (in his avatar)!
9. If anyone wants this item couriered, PM with your postcode and I'll get you a quote. The cab is in Nottingham and it has casters too.
10. I guess a specialist courier could ship it in same way as they do for antique furniture....covered in blankets and strapped to inside of van....
11. Yes, that may be possible; but it's huge and heavy and not sure what i could wrap it in! So collection is massively preferred and recomended.
12. Thanks for the kind comments and bump. I better clarify tho that £10 is cost to ship it in UK. I am asking £38 for the speaker.
13. I cannot confirm the manufacturer of this speaker but it may be a Goodmans. It said so on the box it came in, but it doesn’t say anything on the speaker itself. It is certainly a very well made speaker designed for a clean tone and high power. The chassis is very thick and heavy cast aluminium and the magnet is huge. The whole speaker ways a ton! I have run it up to about 50w, I reckon it would go to 75w without much problem. I have measured the impedance and it is good for 8ohms. The speaker is in perfect working order and has no damage. It delivers a great clean tone with lots of definition and starts to break up nicely when you push it hard. For some reason I can't upload pics at moment. Please PM me with email address and I will email pics over.
14. Jensen C12N classic American sounding 12" guitar speaker; great for Fender clean and rock tones. Rated at 50w and 8ohms. Nicely broken in and ready to go, in perfect working order. can be shipped from Nottingham for £10 or collected for free. Sold for £38 + shipping
15. Original '70s Fender Bassman 2 x 15" cab, 4 ohms. This cab has been significantly improved from the stock cab, which tends to fart and project quite a loose flappy tone. This one has been rebuilt with all seams lined, glued and screwed with 1x2" wood and braced front panel to back with 2x4" wood. This means all seams are perfectly sealed and front back panels cannot flex; therefore much tighter and more defined tone and punch can be produced. I tried numerous fancy speakers like JBL, Celestion, etc and eventually found that a pair of tight bright Eminence drivers worked best to give a full, round and detailed tone. I can't remember which model speakers they were but they cost about £85 each some years ago. Paired with a Fender Bassman head this cab delivers tone to die for. I used a '70s silverface Bassman 135 and a '70s Music Man Stingray Bass and was regularly complimented on the bass sound at gigs. I reckon that a rig like this is a match for any out there if you want classic funk, soul or rock tones. I've done battle with an Ampeg SVT 8x10 rig with this lot too and while I didn't win for the loudest and dirtiest sound, I did win for the sweetest clearest and best defined tone. I finally found bass amp/tone heaven and now I am playing guitar rather than bass!! So this cab is up for sale to help build my guitar amp fund. This is only pic I have of my actual rig. The cab only is for sale and it is a vertically mounted 2x15 rather than diagonal mounted. Now sold for £300 to a hip young dude with excellent taste in Liverpool
16. I still have my Bassman 135 and I reckon they are killer amps - they stay clean right to the top and are clear and warm with plenty of punch. If you want a bit of extra gain and grit in the sound, you can jump the two channels with a patch lead to run both sides of the pre-amp valves and it gets just as punchy as an Ampeg. Main problem I found was with getting the right speakers/cab. When I occasionally play bass these days I now use an old MusicMan 115RH loaded with a vintage RCF 15" 8ohm speaker which sounds fine; but the best tone I've got has been using the original 70s 2x15 Bassman cab. At first that 2x15 cab was horrible - it was too weak and farted a lot. Once I had rebuilt the cab with all seams lined, glued and screwed with 1x2" wood and braced front panel to back with 2x4" wood, the cab was strong as anything and no farts or rumbles, just heavier with super tight tone once I got the right speakers. I tried numerous fancy speakers and eventually found that a pair of tight bright Eminence drivers worked best to give a full, round and detailed tone. I can't remember which speaker models they were but they cost about £85 each some years ago. I finally found bass amp/tone heaven and now I am playing guitar rather than bass!! So this Bassman 2x15 cab will be making way for a guitar amp.
17. Custom boutique HBE Power Screamer in red sparkle finish, comes with original box, pedal is in immaculate condition with no chips, scratches or scuffs. It has velcro on bottom, but has never actually been gigged. This is a very cool overdrive gain pedal, based on the various classic Ibanez Tube Screamers. It has three different diodes to choose from, giving you a selection of different gain characteristics; which is kinda like having three classic Tube Screamers in one pedal. On top of that, this Screamer has a switchable boost too for standing out in the mix, when you need a little more volume. The Boost can be selected/deselected whether the Screamer is activated or not too. Tone, volume and gain controls are all very sensitive and easily controlled and give a wide range of overdrive characteristics. If you like your Tubes screaming with Power, this is the pedal to get. Demo here: £85 + £5 shipping. No offers please. Can be collected from Nottingham with no shipping charge of course.
18. Very neat and funky little 30w vintage valve bass amp made by Selmer in 1968, with all point-to-point wiring, with valve rectifier too. Bought here in Apr '12, having just been serviced and I've only used it twice since then. It comes with some pretty rare and valuable valves in it too; they're Brimar I think. See original advert here: http://basschat.co.u...valve-amp-sold/ I bought this amp for a studio project that I ended up not doing. Anyway I am playing guitar rather than bass these days. It's got a nice warm tone with a very effective cut/boost tone control that takes it from velvety Jamerson-type tones through to bright and punchy tones associated with late 70s funkateers like Bernard Edwards. It's also remarkably loud; but as you all probably know 30w of valve power is way more than 30w of transistor power. My amp tech says that valve wattage doesn't have a lot to do with how loud an amp is anyway. The great tone and loud punch are probably down to the enormous and very heavy indeed transformers in it. I just tested it again with a 79 MusicMan Stingray into a 1x15 MusicMan ported cab and it sounded fantastic. You can get a good growl out of it too. Only thing I need to mention is that while it's warming up it tends to hiss and hum a bit, typical of vintage valve amps from '60s; but once it's settled down to playing temperature it's fine and virtually no hiss at all. Sold for £124.75 on the Bay
19. bought a CoPilot Antdroid off Harry - this pedal is way cool and freaky fun good deal, comms, etc thanks Rupert
20. I love compressors and if I didn't have three already, I'd be all over this, especially as Spencer's gear is soooo good. BTW - great pic for your posts you've got there - I saw that bass player on Jools and thought...now that is a playing face! Have a bump on me..
21. Rats, I was after left-handed angles! Have a bump on me for this tomfoolery. Seriously tho, these are great cables....just resist the temptation to over-bend the cables when tightening down the jacks. The cables aren't weak or anything; it's just that by not over-bending the cable the jacks bed into the cable more easily for a better contact.
22. do you have the grill cloth and badge too? if so, in what condition?
