  2. Flght cases all new cheap to move only REDUCED TO £30 each

various sizes, all new white foam lined.

these are lightweight cases so dont weigh a ton making your van gasp for breath.

you can cut these down and make what you want out of them

garage or studio storage, or just something to put the mother in law in when she gets abit above her self,

if you do this you might have to drill a few holes, this is not to help her breath, but to just to poke sticks through and prod her when your board. 🙂

they also work equally well for the wife, though you might have to make the holes abit bigger to get her arms and legs through so she can still get you a beer from the fridge, wash dishes, go shopping...that sort of thing.

i have 7 to go so enough for all the family 🙂  all only 30 each, yep !!! 30 to bass chatters only

    collect from ellesmere port

I found the perfect remedy for this malady of which I too have been thru a few times, each time stretching my enthusiasm to a slither...I took up the Tenor recorder, learned to read treble clef and now cannot put it down..I can play what I like, when I like, where I like and have thousands of tunes to choose from and people love it.

same here with flute and trombone i find most of my tracks now have flute and bone in them somewhere, although i cant say with conviction people love my playing  🙉.... yet...   but im working on it 😎

hi all just incase anyone wants to tackle this, here is a valve amp project, nice and cheap

old vintage valve amplifier westinghouse 5u4g 6j5 6j5g guitar, pre amp, studio build etc

for sale an old amplifer that i think may of amplifed a radio as there is a coax input stage.

valves look good, does not look like anything is burnt

i have no idea what make it is and no idea if its working as dont want to switch it on, though it does have a plug on it.

so sold as a hoby kit for spares.

for someone to make something out of it.

it does have a really cool westinghouse 5u4g in it, the 5u4g being pref by great amp designs like messa boogie for rectifing AC to DC rather than diods.

    info here....

    https://mullard.org/collections/audio-valves-5u4g-u52-52ku-cv575-cv1071-cv1575-gz31-vu71-rectifier/products/copy-of-5u4g-national-union-vt-244-jan-5u4g-plain-charcoal-anode-1

    and here with pdf...

    http://www.r-type.org/exhib/aaa0071.htm

i have tried to show as much of the wiring as poss for all you boffins to trace whats

going on, the volume knob is switched as well, thats about all i can tell you really,

collect from ellesmere port or i can post if really wanted at cost tba.

gotta be worth £30 or would swap for a pedal of equal value

i am sick of trying to organise bands and sick of the same old covers!!

no-one PLAYS anymore.....   and if they write their own I am too old!

Still i am going out with the best bass setup/sound i have ever had!  so thats nice. I guess you have to know when you are done with it?

It will all be sold soon...

Hope everyone finds there dreams!!  :)

me Ar$e ! what sort of pish is this 🙂

if you pack in you will end up on the coutch watchin tv with the Missus 😞 do you really want that ?

i would do ANYTHING than watch tv, and i would do ABSOLUTLY ANYTHING than sit and watch tv with her.

    Fu@k all that,

im 58, as well as playing in a 80s tribute show, i write all the songs for my 8 piece funk band and record them all

    thats my love thang,

and i cant imagine a world where i could not do this, i would hate it, im in my studio having a break right now typing this.

get some recording gear, cheap now days, skol has done a great thred in the Recording section called BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO HOME RECORDING.

Dont wast that good sound you have been striving to get, get it down, create

if that does not convince you then this might....

creating songs and releasing them, dead easy nowdays, will be one of the only things you can leave here when your gone,

your name will always be attached with them songs, you will never die, also to learn all them songs over the years you will have gained alot of skill and knowledge, you going to let all that just go ? years of work ? with nothing to show for it ? no reward ? NOTHING ?

    Naaarrrrrr,  what a wast.

If you have not tried then maybe think about writing, get some chunes out there and when you have done enough, you can decide if you want to surround your self with good players to play them live !

Because there is no Buzz on the planet like it.

    Packin in ?? me Ar$e.

    comone... chin up

a tv bum ...or...  a creative soul.

Tonight matthew,, i am going to be............

Genuinely agree... while I'm sure it's technically tricky to play, there no real melody or hook or anything actually interesting to listen to. Jaco has always been a bit overrated in my eyes.

i think this was a door opener for aspiring bass players and pros alike, and the fact most bass players have heard it, weather they like it or not matters not,

i dont think he is over rated,

his 16th funky fingerstyle is for me just killer, thats where id like to be.

but not to be a copy, but just to have that feel under my fingers as and when its needed

Bad solos ? iv said this once befor on here, but here it is again because its in the running here...

i was playing in a rock covers band in the 80s and we played in a pub called the mersey clipper that was on corporation road in Birkenhead, a VERY scruffy rough little dive with the smallest stage on the planet , anyone remember that ?

we use to go on after the stripper ( not joking),

so half way through the set i did a bass solo and i use to ware dark sunglasses trying to look cool, half way through my bass solo one of the lenses fell out my crap sunglasses, i looked up and the whole place creased up.

al never forget that, and the bass solo was crap too thinking about it 🙂

    Moral of the story ???

dont go on stage with cheap sh!t sunglasses, you know its going to happen.....it will. it will... 🙂

    Hi all,

I've started a new project and we've been racking our brains for the last week or so as to a decent band name. Soooooooo many of the names we've thought of (some pretty obscure!) seem to all have been taken.

How did you pick your band name? Did it just 'come' to you or did you have to properly think about it?

Any suggestions are also welcome! We're going for an 80s - 90s old skool metal vibe (not covers).

    Ta!

    old skool vibe

    cool metal

    rock the 80s

    rock the 90s

    too cool for skool

    pedel to the metal

    spandex hair and beer

    spandex carrot.  ......................

haha sums up 90s rock bands, you could all even ware...... no, no,  forget it, we dont want to go there again 🙂

  9. i started a sort of modern cajun band and racked my head coming up with a name.. in the end came up with...

"SlackJaw Hoboes"  i love that name. its still sort of going..

was in another doing a mix of uptempo songs in a bastardised jazzy way with a girl singer... band name.... ?

    "Jazz slags"

oh... and another that never really got off the ground, 5 of the members of a soul band i was in decided to fire ourselfs and left to do a smaller band and mix of stuff ...( or did we just sack the 3 brass players ?)

so we were called     "The Spud gun 5"   🙂

just go with what comes into your head, you can make it witty if wanted. could even make it age related, for ex, how many of you would get "Ernie's turbo milk cart" ?

Perhaps putting the same products into the market for 70 years has finally filled it to the point that almost everyone who wants one has one and there are enough used ones to satisfy the rest?

and in that lays the biggest problem, "greed" fender if wanted could of taken a big chunk of the guitar pie early on and kept it stable, but, with cost cutting and making a great product as cheap as they can they cut their own throats, in that the quality went down so bad that even the japan ( respect to japan here by the way ) made better instruments for fender, and then to licence the mex ones out as well under the fender brand and flooding the market with ( what ever you want to call them) all it did was water down, thin out, spred out, cheaply globilise an iconic product, it was only a matter of time, greed and bad managerment just looking at the bonus at the end of the year. i still say fender produce the cheapest product at the higest price based on name, they give you a product that works great out of the box, ( some of the time)  but if you really want to make it special you have to work on it and upgrade your self.

fender should of stayed self contained, the legacy was given to them on a plate for gods sake, why could they not see that ?

    greed !

each to their own and all that.

  12. "The music industry is weighted against artists, with even successful pop stars seeing "pitiful returns" from streaming, a committee of MPs has said.

They are calling for a "complete reset" of the market, with musicians given a "fair share" of the £736.5 million that UK record labels earn from streaming.

In a report, they said royalties should be split 50/50, instead of the current rate, where artists receive about 16%.

The findings came after a six-month inquiry into music streaming.

"While streaming has brought significant profits to the recorded music industry, the talent behind it - performers, songwriters and composers - are losing out," said Julian Knight, MP, who chairs parliament's Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) committee.

"Only a complete reset of streaming that enshrines in law their rights to a fair share of the earnings will do."

  13. Hi Aj, worth every penny, prob wont see another at that price for a while

But...ts been sold via facebook and its being collected today,

guy on his way as i type,

So will have to mark it as withdrawn for now.

i cant believe all you cheap plank wackers would not take the offer of a fee biscuit ! and this week i had hobnobs in !

see what happens when you wait, ? see what happens ? if you snooze you loose,

so.... the offer was not extended to facebook users ...so....al just have to eat them all myself

    aaahhh well.

    Cheers All 🙂

  14. cheers dave, iv just put it on facebook market as well at 700, so to bass chatters 650 is a good deal.

was tempted to keep the amp as it is such a top notch design and is hard to get now plus it sounds as good as it looks, with loads of tone options.

im still using swr though and have a swr red head 2x10 combo and an swr 2x10 uprated 900w cab creating a 4x10 if needed and a son of bertha 1x15 cab so i can have the 2x10 combo and a 1 x 15 on the bottom so have most of events covered.

so i dont really need this any more, a real shame cus i love the sound and i paid allot of money for it back in the day,

    aahhh well

    cheers

The amp and cab are like new and it is housed in a gator rack sack for transport only,

    both in very good condition,

its a ggod price so wont be dropping,

The quality biscuits were a dealbreaker for me, sorry I'm out....

yea, i get the quality biscuits were such an extravagant bonus, possibly even putting the bass in the shade,

i feel the withdraw of them could be to my own detriment.

so i now propose a new menu.

back by popular demand is the afore mentioned  free biscuit, but with an amendment to the original offer.

    and that is..

there will now be a fee biscuit but as to its origins...

i reserve the right to withhold  its make,  until served. ( clause 1)

by doing this you get what is in at the time,

    it could be good..

    it could be cheap..

luck of the draw im afraid

but the offer of the now non quality sh!t tea stays the same, until further notice

as i bought a box of 80 and still have 80 left

now please note, i know on the face of it, it looks like iv kopped out and only got them in for visitors and im drinking the quality stuff myself, this line of thought would be purely speculation in your behalf and is simply not the case.

i have a valid medical reason for this and that is i simply don't like Sh!t tea, as it makes me feel a bit sick.

    so the updated menu is...

    sh!t quality tea

and a biscuit of unknown origin

i once again reserve the right to amend the menu at any time without notice (clause 2).

based on stock, and market price fluctuations.

you will be duly notified of any changes

but do reserve the right to only notify you of them changes if and when i can be arsed. (clause 3)

this is the end of the service announcement.

    thank you.

There's a healthy supply of cheap parts for this system on eBay, and the brain is basically an IBM 486. I've had no failures of any parts in 22 years, it was very well built in USA from good materials.

there is indeed and a great forum you can down load anything from the database with very good back up from boffins and designers some that worked on them at mackie

just looking at your rack ( if you will excuse the pun 🙂) im a bit of a rack junkie, what you using there ?

so i can hard wire everything with patchbays on one side, will send photo when installed, at the mo its this....

  18. agreed there is all that, , and also to add to that there is no midi recording either, there is midi sync but thats about it.

its more about bringing it to peoples attention and giving a bit of insight into it as old tec,

but i think as all old gear, its still very usable and sounds good, like all gear while it lasts.

the small floppy disc thing was just to show how small the O/S program is, you can you usb emulators in place of course.

and change the hard drives for flash cards if wanted,

i hope it does not clap out on me as my work flow around it is almost a pleasure to use and iv got a good grasp how to use it which it would take me ages to learn another system or software as good, but i do have another one just incase. loads of studios now using them as software daw controllers so also quite adaptable,

    here you go

  19. Was just reading nail soups post about needing more ram which prompted me to do this post

just in case anyone is interested.....

this is more about showing you what old tec can and cant do, and bring it to peoples attention as it seems not allot of people know about it, or forgotten about it, maybe on purpose haha,  each to their own and all that.

There is a system you can get quite cheapish now ( for what you are getting)  which i have been using for 20+years, never crashes,

it is old, but, still to this day its just amazing, i still don't think there is anything out there quite like it.

For example, if i said there was a mixer and recorder system out there that can.......

record 24 tracks at 24bit 44/96 at the same time all day and never crash ( in 20 years!)

full on screen editing like cubase only easier

the desk is 72 channels 8 bus 12 aux out and 12 aux internal with a mastering section every track has its own compressor gate, and range of EQs with full automation going through the desk into the recorder and back out from the recorder back to the desk

and have top quality plugins running like.....

    Massenberg EQ

    drawmer ADX dynamics

    TC reverbs

Mackie Reverbs and delays and FX

    Mackie vocal correction suit

    Antares autotune

acuma final mix, mastering ( now owned by Trackion mastermix but not as good)

    Stereo and mono Delays

    RTA 31 graphics

    5.1 cinema surround sound

    + a load more

the desk is fully automated and i mean everything, in real time

and records to the recorder 24 tracks via light pipe ( adat)

The recorder, each track has 8 virtual tracks for other takes, thats 8x24 = 192 tracks for one song all on the screen at the same time, if wanted !

Also if wanted the desk can control your DAW be it cubase, logic,  protools etc, with everything right in front of you on a desk,

And everything listed above running ALL AT THE SAME TIME ! with no crashing, drivers or windows in sight,

and all that runs with only...

    wait for it.......

    256mb ram

    a 333mhz intel pent  processor

    120g and 32g hard drives

the whole O/S on 3 floppy discs.

    Would you believe it ???

    Probably not,

yet this was available toward the end of the 90s ! yep, even then, all that was available,  no idea how mackie did it, but, it is a great feat of electrical engineering even by today's standards

The desk Is the Mackie D8B

the recorder is the Mackie HDR 24

    youtube them

I run one D8B with two HDR recorders running into it, recording 48 tracks of wide open full bandwidth WAVS

and i think it sounds great, with more than enough tools to use to get most jobs done ready for release.

All sounds great and to be fair it still is,  but... by todays standards there are a few draw backs. if they bother you, but nothing to do with the quality of the recording or wav stamping.

1, the recorder is like a digital tape recorder, you can not slow it down or speed it up, its set, you can alter the BPM but

only as a time frame at the top for the markers, so the transport wont slow or speed up, this never once bothered me as all my songs start at a set BPM anyway and im happy with that.

2, on the recorder you cant flip wavs backward, or time stretch wavs, again iv never needed them, but would be nice to try,

3 on the recorder you can not create more tracks, they are set at 24 with 8 virtual tracks per track, so enough for the most.

4 if you want to take the wav files or songs from the recorder to your daw, or bouncing wavs or tracks over to your daw, you need to use a FTP link to your pc using an ip address, which i use all the time and find it no problem once set up, or you can just inport the wavs from the hard drive or just play them in to your daw via spdif out as there is no USB connection. or just backup to the caddy drive and use that drive in a one of them drive bays that usb connect to your pc or laptop, easy really.

When these when came out they were...

the desk about £15k + depending which plugins and options, Review here..https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/mackie-d8b

The recorder about £5k all in review here...https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/mackie-hdr2496

So thats about £20.000.00 of usable stuff you can get today for !

about 700 if you scoot around, a great deal i think if your into this type of stuff.

anyway, i just thought i would throw this out there, it could be an option for you if you wanted to look at something else.

i know at least one other basschat member that is still using them,

    anyone else ?

or if you want to know more, ask away.

Thats cool 🙂 we all need a flash point.

mine was nils Landgren, loved that band, i was playing in a funk band doing more than a few of his songs

you know how it is, you obsess and i ended up getting everything by him, and then when magnum Coltrane price joined as much as i envy Lars Danielsson as a top bass player that band then with magnum seem to spark something and i wanted to play trombone, must of just been seeping through all them years, plus my friend i was in the funk band with was a top bone player using wah wah and all sorts tom foolery. also the necessity of asking brass players to play on my tracks, in the end i just thought "how hard can it be, get a bone and find the notes" so i did, so i think thats where it all began with me, with nils,

  21. just a thought from another post someone mentioned, it does seem quite a few bass players either started on trombone and went to bass or started on bass and went to trombone.

i know a few on here play bone as well.

for me i started on bass guitar and trombone came much later,

of all i talk to who play bass and trombone it seems like a natural progression either way,

it must be a low end kinship.

i now love playing trombone, im nowhere near where i want to be im good enough to do all the parts on my songs,

but i now do wish i had started earlier.

For those who have thought about giving it a go, i would say do it, for the most im sure you will love it.

so... how many of you play bone as well, and while we are at it how many have thought of giving it a go ?
