1.
Buy used and get a 500 watt amp and a 4x10 cab. You'll be fine for whatever your band wants to do in the future.
One thing I have learned from this ad is a bigger ouput amp is not going to necessarily give volume or a clean sound if the speaker is less than 100db @spl 1watt to 1mtr. In other words better to have a 300w amp and 4x10 speaker with 104db.
2. The gear people have suggested on here had already sold.
3. Just joined a 6 piece band (including myself). Two guitarists have Marshall stacks but I wouldn't say the band are overly loud. They do pop and very light rock. However, I may decide later to move onto heavier music with another band so want to purchase a combo or rig that will be sufficient in volume to cut through whilst maintaining a quality sound. Having said that, I don't really want a monstrosity to cart around (I know, I want it all). Someone suggested waiting for the Peavey TNT tour 600w combo to reach dealerships. Any advice on this or other set ups would be appreciated. Cheers
4. Prefer a working band or one that's near to gigging. (No bands comprising of beginners please). I have transport, am highly dependable, learn songs methodically and quickly and raring to go. What more could you ask for? Get in touch!
5. Thanks guys. Must say there are some quality bassists around at the moment. We had 22 apply, 15 of which we offered auditions to. Out of those we tried out 8 were all damn good. So needless to say we now have a new bassist in place.
6. We are a gigging covers band with a busy schedule for this year and next, playing a minimum of twice per week (fri & sat) and looking for a replcaement bassist. Material is up to date mainstream Rock & Indie with some classic crowd pleasers. We are experienced musos who have a professional & enthusiatic approach, so new member needs to be like minded, of a similar standard, reliable, enjoy having fun and committed only to this band. 7. appreciate the help but north south east west don't work as they are not positioned slike that. More like 2 at the top and two at the bottom. BTW what does blend/balance relate to....pups?
8. Ah, but which is which and what is a centre detente?
9. Friend has bought one but doesn't know what function each control knob serves. Four knobs in total. Any help would be appreciated.
10. I know there are opposing opinions on which is best but I just want to know what the advantages are of an active bass. In addition: Does operating the active switch whilst playing increase volume? When should it be used?
11.
Sorry mate, didn't see your first post. 300w off guitar!!!!! I'm suprised you can hear yourself at all.
Depends if they're putting out 300w. If you note another of my posts you will see that I said we are not a heavy or loud band and guitarists don't go above level 3 on the master volume. It's not like we're playing at Wembley; just pubs and small clubs. Played last week and cut through fine at just under halfway mark on my master volume.
12. Surely some of these are riffs; not actual solos. BLONDIE - ATOMIC
13. Thanks for telling me about OBMM but I would still like to know opinions on Koltz Kik Neutronik leads.
14. Hi, I want some quality leads. Saw some Koltz Neutrik guitar leads on ebay. Are there specific ones for bass or is guitar the general term for both?
15. Well guys I took your advice about buying used and trying out combos, amps and cabs! Today I am the proud owner of a Hartke HA3000 head and VX410 cab! And I reckon I got it at a bargain price too (£280). It's loud enough, without pushing it above level 4 volume and not too big to rely on others to transport until I get a vehicle, (which I may not have to do as the band are considering buying a van). Thanks for all the help, much appreciated.

17. As ad states: Hampshire. Most of us live in/around Southampton.
Where abouts are you guys based?
18. That would be an easy remedy my firend but I can't transport 2 cabs!
I own and use an Ampeg BA500 (350Watts 2x10, 500Watts with an extension cabinet) It's essentially an SVT 350H with a 2x10. A bit bulky to cart around, but it has removable wheels. Worth the hassle once you plug in on stage though.
19. So if I buy a 300w 115 Trace Elliot combo, what output am I gonna get? And if I buy a Ashdown ABM C115 300, what output will I get? WTF don't manufacturers put exactly what output you are gonna have instead of watts ohms etc etc. What's the point of having 300w of power if the 15" speaker can't handle it?
Not used any of the gear you are asking about but I know a lot of guys on here dont rate Ashdown Mags. Remember that a lot of combos dont put out their rated power unless an extension is used.
20. I did walk out of the shop! Have since been to The Music Shop and tried out a Laney 300rms head with compact 410 cab. No pressure to buy, sounded fine, but as I was not in a band situation don't know what it would be like. Spoke to another bassist about the Roland D Bass 210 who said it is a nice amp but the 400w is shared between the 2 x 10 speakers and horn so not as powerful as it seems! Most bassists seem happy with the Trace Elliott 715X but my dosh can't stretch that far at the mo. I sit worth me saving a bit more to get one? I know it's all about personal preference but I just want some feedback on the experience of others with these amps. Cheers.
21. Went into Sound Control and the so called bass expert (have they really got any experts?) told me not to touch Roland D Bass 210 as it was muddy with no clarity. Said Ashdown Mag 300 head would be good through ampeg 410 cab as Ashdown speakers tend to get hot and ruins the sound. But that set up is outta the price range I can afford. He also said the Line 6 range was good, Crate was rubbish and Peavey combo very good (but they didn't have any in stock). Advised I should have a minimum of 600w as guitarists both have 150w combos. However, as I said in my original post: we are not a loud or heavy rock band and guitarists volume never exceeds level 3. Comments please.
22. Currently using deps for gigs but looking for permanent bass player who is available to gig Friday and/or Saturday nights. We perform rock and Indie covers mainly in pubs, social clubs but have done corporate events. Looking for someone who has own gear and transport, easily contactable, has a sense of humour, enjoys learning new material on a regular basis (every couple of months, so both us and the audience don't get bored). Oh, and must be able to play bass to a reasonable standard. Give us a call to arrange a meet for a chat and jam: Trev: 07966563887 For info, line up, music clips, current setlist and gig dates/venues, check out our website: www.redglory.net Or, www.myspace.com/redglory1
23. Hi, I'm a newbie, just joined a band and looking to get something more substantial to go alongside drummer & 2 guitarists who both have AVT275's (150w each) on volume 3. Playing rock & indie covers but nothing heavy and not too loud. On a tight budget and will be pushing it to afford the £500 mark unless I can trade in some gear inpx. Aslo, need something practical to transport so can't have 2 cabs. Combo would be preferable but will heed advice of those more knowledgeable: So here is the choice: New Ashdown Mag300 head: £237 Ashdown Mag 410T (307rms) combo: £425 Ashdown 410 cab: £239 Laney RB9 (300rms) head: £179 Laney RB410 cab: £189 Laney RB7 kickback (300rms) combo: £305 Crate BT410 cab: £249 Hughes & Kettner quantum combo 421(285rms): £510 Roland D bass 210 (400w): £520 Hartke VX410 cab: £245 Used: Ampeg BA500 combo: £550 Hartke HA3000 plus VX410 cab: £320 Feedback please.
