1.
From the cultural melting pot that is Wisconsin, U.S.A.! Home of delicious cheese, micro-brew beer and far too many Blues bands. I'm a recent guitar to bass convert. I've been playing guitar for close to 30 years, and a little over a year ago I started focusing more on playing bass. I must say, I'm enjoying the challenge and I'm hoping to learn more about music and theory by "starting over" with a new instrument and an open mind. Which is what brings me here, trying to soak up as much knowledge from those more experienced than myself. Being prone to fits of G.A.S. on occasion, most likely from the guitar playing obsession, I've acquired a few different electric basses along the way trying to find the right one for my style and expectations. At this point, I've settled on a Fender MIM Precision strung with flatwounds which is all that and more. Does it end here? Possibly not, but this ought to do for a while. And now, the required picture:
Hi there! Nice bass!
2. I have a behringer ultrabass head and cab, bought them off the bass player who left the band, I joined. As I hadn't played for a number of years I needed something to play through - quick! Got them cheap and they seem ok. I ain't very clued up with amps mind you!
3. Gotta say, I do like it here tho'. A fine bunch of folks!
4. Update! some good news, the guy who auditioned has said he would like to come along and play with us! And he knows another guitarist! Hope for the future! Thanks again for all your positive comments.
5. And the very best of luck to you, hope it goes well.
6. Thanks everyone for all your advice! Made me feel a bit better. We are going to try and get the guy who auditioned to sing for us. It's a strange one because when I joined the band I immediately felt a bond with the lead guitar player (he was the one who contacted me), but this bond soon dwindled away. By this month I knew there was a definite "them and us" with the band kinda split into 2 camps. Think this is why I feel so angry, kind of betrayed if you know what I mean? Anyway, onwards and upwards!
7. Hi all, I really need to share this (have a whinge!) as it has cut me up big time. I joined this band about 3 months ago, after not having played bass for quite a number of years, i have been loving it. They are (were?) a working band regularly gigging, but had lost a male vocalist and bass player. Since I joined we had rehearsed regularly (once/twice a week) and had 3 gigs lined up, the first in 4 weeks time. We had just booked a day in the studio and done a band photo shoot last Sunday. About 4 weeks ago, we auditioned a male vocalist (the band had always had a male and female vocalist), he was very very good, but our female vocalist clearly wasn't amused as he kinda blew her away/ put her in the shade. We had a band meeting to decide on him, the verdict being if we brought him in, she would leave the band, as would our lead guitar player (as they are joined at the hip, playing acoustically together outside of the band). So everyone in the band gave her our full backing, we decided to continue with just her doing lead vocals. So, we do this photoshoot on Sunday, practice on Monday night (not great, she tells us we have to keep turning down as her voice can't cope! We, by the way are a rock band!) During the practice the lead guitar player throws a wobbler directed at me, as a song we were playing broke down after his solo, (this has been happening for a few weeks now, sometimes because he can't remember what to play!, worrying with a gig 4 weeks away!) So it's not a good night, leaving a rather poor atmosphere at the end. Our rythym guitar player then asked if we are back in on Wednesday night, as we usually are, they then snap no. no. we have 2 acoustic gigs at the weekend and we need to practice for them. Ok, we all say, though we clearly aren't happy. Next morning we get a text message!! from the female singer saying she is leaving the band, as her voice isn't capable! By the afternoon the lead guitar player now decides he is leaving too! (we knew that would be the case). Leaving us high and dry after booking 3 gigs, a day in the studio, doing a photoshoot and rejecting a really good singer in order to back her! Im am seriously peeved! The rest of us have vowed to carry on / start again, but it will be a different band (maybe a good thing?). I personally have spent the last 3 months putting an awful lot of time, money and effort into this just for people to waste my time! Grrrrrrrr. Thanks for taking the time to read this. cheers all.

11. Hiya there! Like your influences, cool!
12. Im left handed, but have always played bass right handed. To be honest this was more down to not being able to find / afford a left handed bass when i first started. Now I don't think I could play left handed (I have tried turning the bass around, just feels weird!), however I do think that if I had started left handed then my plucking may have been much faster/stronger, as they are my stronger fingers. Funnily enough I still play air guitar left handed!
13. I saw a "Harley Benton" 6 string bass on e-bay, most desirable at well under 100 notes! So I bought it!

17.
Have you checked out his age Al... an Alnwick bairn by all accounts. Saying that I am developing an interest in fly fishing so you may be getting your brains picked BB!
Aye it's Alnwick! a bairn!!! I wish! My brain awaits picking!
18. the stranglers - shah shah a go go. great fun to play!
19. Hope you all enjoy it, too short notice for me to get down there. He is an amazing bass player!
20. Hiya, im just up the coast from you (well about 30 miles!). I see Colin Moulding is one of your fave players, mine too, cool.
21. Retro Rockets by The Stranglers (new track). Also still trying to learn "Atomic" by Blondie as the band I have joined play it. Doesn't help when I learn the original, then they say "oh we play the live version, played a whole step down, from a couple of years ago" - it's hard enough as it is!!! (well it is to me anyway!)
22. The Stranglers did it for me - JJ's bass playing immediately made me want to play bass.
