Although its not the bass he's most known for, I'm surprised fender haven't cashed in with a signature model yet...

Its a tricky riff but slow it down with a metronome and you can get it fingerstyle without too much bother. I have just about got it, and get a reasonable facsimile of the bernard tone with the bridge pickup on my roscoe beck with the tone almost or fully off. I have had a few compliments that it sounds like the record. I tried doing it using bernards 'finger plectrum' technique and its very awkward and painful, to be honest unless your doing it for personal reasons to nail it 100% i doubt anyone at a gig would ever hear the difference. I cant find a video where Jerry Barnes the current chic bass player plays that riff at all, they re-arrange it live. Perhaps even Jerry cant do it justice.

He's pretty much got it down...

I bought a set of cream covers on EBay for my Precision and simply fitted them over the pickup that I had and liked. I'd looked at DiMarzio but this seemed the easiest sensible option. It cost me just a few quid.

Good plan! It does seem the only way to get a white musicman pickup is to buy a cheapo off ebay and just use the cover. -

Try Herrick pickups, I`m sure Martin will be able to sort something.
Lozz, have you used any of their pickups? Just asking as I've never heard of them before... -
They seem to do great jazz in cream but no humbuckers/soapbars/musicman pickups sadly.
-
So I'm building a new bass. I'm looking for a jazz and a musicman pickup in white or cream.
The jazz is easy enough as there's loads of replacement covers available, but does anyone know of a company who make great jazz and humbuckers in white or cream?
Thx -
I reckon that's the best bet. Cheap pickup, whip off the cover!

Good shout!

I tried Ernie Ball, and no joy. They refuse to sell spares without me supplying the original serial from the bass. I gave them the serial for my Stingray and they wont sell me two white covers as my bass is a 4H, not a 4HH. (I wasn't planning on putting them on my Ray, but didn't tell them that).

Resurrecting this thread, has anyone found anywhere that sells them?

I know the feeling, at first I thought the GK MB500F was as good, then I plugged back into a GK1001RB and oh...
-
I've been all over the spectrum of amps, from the amazing but ridiculous Ampeg SVT Skunkworks which took 2 of us to lift it onto the 810, to the god awful GenzBenz Shuttle which needed repair after 2 months and sounded like cr*p for its entire life in my hands. I miss my GK 2001RB and the Skunkworks still, monster amps, but better when someone else is carrying it for you.
Now settled with an Ampeg SVT-II non pro for the big gigs, Ampeg SVT-III non pro for everyday pub gigs, and a Sansamp RBI + Peavey IPR1600 for when we're limited on space in the cars or I have to carry it a long way. Oh, and there's a GK MB500 Fusion in the cupboard too just for fun. -
Thanks mate!!

Thank you EBS Freak! Now to find someone who can solder for me....

Yeah they're all IEC
What are you trying to rack? It's all about getting rack panels, hex bolts and nyloc nuts, lots of solder, neutrik chassis mount components... adapters, cable... I can give you some direction if you can tell me what you want?

Awesome. So what I have is my power amp and Sansamp RBI.
I want to have a 1U strip with:
• single powercon socket powering the 2 units (with room to expand to a third unit powered)
• a 6.3mm jack in socket
• speakon out
• XLR for DI from the sansamp
Pretty simple, I'm blindly assuming....
I should add, my soldering is abominable and I have no idea how the powercon works with multiple units. -
So I want to make my rack tidy, gotta love a bit of OCD. It'll be a simple power amp and preamp combo, with space for another 1u in there for future tweakery. I want a back plate with power, guitar in, DI and speaker out. Something like the pic below.
I like the idea of a single powercon socket for all items in the rack. Anyone know how to do this or someone who could make it for me even??
Thanks

I suppose it's feasible that we tend to need higher power amps to give us more headroom. It certainly doesn't look any different on the exterior.
Give Robin Szemeti a shout; he was the tech guy who looked over mine when I got it and will be able to answer your questions. They're based in Kidderminster, I just drove the amp up, did a couple of local NT places locally, cream tea etc.

Power Amp Rigs
in Amps and Cabs

All built up and sounding huge.
Sansamp runs direct into the Peavey IPR1600. The GK is a separate as a backup. All wired up to a tidy harness on the back to save fumbling around in the dark on stage.
