Hi all.
I'd like a new scratchplate made. Does anyone know somewhere I can get one made in the UK?
If possible, I'd liked an aged/relic one but I'd assume that too much of an ask.
Thanks!!
Mods - If this is in the wrong category, please move.

60s Jazz basses aren't around any more either. But they are if you look hard enough.
They only made a very limited run in that colour though, around 20 apparently so they very rarely turn up for sale...

Yes, a full fat usa peavey cirrus....stunning!!!....please don't touch it.
I know what you mean, its gorgeous, but I've always wanted the other finish and with Peavey Custom Shop closed, and the only Cirrus production now being the Indonesian ones I have no option, even a guy at Peavey suggested finding a local luthier to sort it.

Yeah I thought I;'d deleted this post though as I thought it should be in the repair/technical section instead...

The top pic seems to be a polyester coat so is sitting on the surface of the wood, so should (with effort) be able to be taken back to the wood no problem.
Once stripped, it can be stained. If you want the wood stringers to be a specific colour, then you can artificially stain those also.
Any decent poly finisher will be able to do this at a cost, I dunno, give the guys at bow finishing a shout - https://www.bowfinishing.co.uk/
Here's a refin they did as an example -

As you can see, no trace of brown, and they went from a darker colour to lighter.
That's what I need and based on that fantastic job I'm going to give them a call! Thanks very much!!

Sorry to sound so obvious, but given the costs involved, wouldn't it be cheaper just to source a new bass?
There's probably a very high chance that the existing oil and varnish/clearcoat is already deeply embedded into the grain and you're never going to be able to suck that out; any new colour wouldn't take the same as if the top was unfinished. It's never going to pop like the one on the bottom.
I would if that were possible, but you can't get these anymore...

HI all. Does anybody here know someone or a company I can approach about refinishing my bass. Its currently looks as is in the first photo below, but I want the body stained and refinished so the wings and the core are grey, like the second photo. The tricky part is that I want the mahogany stringers to stay their beautiful reddish/brown.
Any experience of someone handy with wood stain would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
and I want it

Are you willing to split? I'd only need the head.

Re-listed. Same description, so he's clearly not following this thread...
I noticed that too... and totally agree with all your points, definitely not Matsumoku era or a SB900.

Currently loving Dunlop Super Brights and I keep getting told how awesome the NYXL strings are, maybe its time for a change?!?
Err, also I like lynxes, they're cool cats and they're an anagram of NYXL... 😺

It certainly is, and it plays fantastically. Looks bl**dy awesome too. No end of people keep asking me where I got it from!
May have been slightly inspired by Paul Turner's gorgeous Stenback bass...
