  1. Evening gents

Looking for a replacement 12ax7 preamp valve for myTrace, I'm looking for something a lot hotter, I know being a single 12ax7 I'm not going to get into proper saturated distortion territory but something that breaks up quite musically would be good. Any ideas or suggestions?

    Cheers

  2. 1984/5 Squier P-Bass. It was an SQ series in white that had aged beautifully into a cream colour, white scratchplate. Maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. It had a distinctive knick around the 12th fret, like a diagonal slash. I sold it to some guy down south (who was buying it on behalf of his son) for absolute peanuts when I was poor. I wonder where it is now? or even if a member of this very forum has it. I miss this bass hugely. Would love to have it again.

Also a 1998 Yamaha TRB4II in Orange (serial number had an 8fk or something). My first 'real' bass. Huge sentimental attatchment to it but, again, sold when I was desperate for cash. Sold it to a guy who worked in PMT in Oxford circa 2005. I would literally pay anything to get my paws on this again! I always wonder where it is right now and what stories it has to tell :)

Don't suppose anyone here has had either cross their path?

  3. Been playing 11 years and believe it or not I don't really have callouses! But yeah keep plugging away chap and your hands should toughen up (or your nerve endings might die as seems to be the case with me :D)

That looks like someone has taken a Sterling neck and built their own body to replicate the old Stingray limited edition with the flame top. The pickups dont look right either, I thing the standard Sterling 34 has the new pickups with the built in sloping thumb rest bit, they dont look like normal Stingray pickups.

I would stay clear, you wont shift that on IMHO.

My old Ray 34 had the sloping rest, so you're right. I think this is a clear bitsa. I know it's all subjective and whatnot but i think you'd seriously struggle to shift this for £500 Karlfer.

  5. I know it's been said a million times before but Fender's attempts at new models (imo) are always really dull. Maybe it's the high standards we expect due to the P+J basses. The Dimension was probably the best effort i've seen from them since but even then, it's still a little 'meh'

  6. I have an old Washburn AB10 that seems to be different from other ones in that it has a round soundhole, I'm guessing it's an early one but I can't find squat on the internet about it. The Washburn EQ packed up so it's retro-fitted with a Shadow pickup. Here's the only pic I could find (at work atm). Anyone shed any light on it?

    Cheers!

  7. I use a 1997 GP12SMX head, Ah300. The thing is a tone monster. Solid state and valve pre-amp blend is a great feature. 2 band compressor is really effective and the amp has more flexibility than any other I've used. It's got a certain fatness and punch to the notes that lightweight class D's (that I've tried) just don't have. It was Stuart Zender that turned me onto Trace. He still has the greatest tone I've ever heard, live especially.
