1. I have to disagree. Having played a couple of S.U.B's before i bought a SBMM Ray 34 i have to say as good as the SUBS were, the SBMM felt much more like a real stingray in feel and sound and looks.

2. It is currently strung up with ernie ball super slinky's 045- 100. It's the second set i've put on as i like the tone (while it lasts). At my band practices the G cuts through using the Trace Elliot 1048 running at 300w.

One thing that i've noticed after having a closer examination of the setup is that the nut is cut very low on the G-string, and the G is set lower than any of the others, maybe this has something do with it?

I also use a full bass boost and a notch of extra treble, leaving the mids flat on the preamp. Leaving the amp flat bar a touch of extra bass.

I think its just another Ernie ball 'quirk' like the G string not being inline with the center of the polepiece! :) Smashing basses though.

3. I find this thread quite interesting as my SBMM Ray 34 has no problem whatsoever on the G string. Its even and loud and full of life. Some people say that theirs are dead and others claim to have never experienced this problem. If it is a manufacturing (or design) defect i would imagine that every Stingray would suffer from it?
Its quite puzzling either way. :)

4.
Could be a power supply problem, but just to clarify are you replacing the fuse underneath where the power cable connects into the amp? If so are you using the correct time-delay fuse?
Yes it is where the cable connects to the amp. I swapped the fuse that had blown for a identical replacement (T2AL 250V)
5 years of flawless service from the amp and this is the first thing to ever go wrong with it!

5. For me it didnt bother me one bit paying £600 for the ray 34. I did look at secondhand American Stingrays but the decent ones were all hovering around £700 plus. By buying the Ray 34 i more or less got the same thing in a finish/colour that i wanted (as opposed to waiting ages for the right one to appear in the right colour) and with a years warranty. Plus it was new!! it means it soul will always be mine!! mwah hahahaha!!!!!

6. My Warwick Pro Fet 3.2 head and Wca 410 Pro cab have to go!!

Its the 4ohm cab so it means the head pumps out the full 300watts.

Owned from new since 2007, more or less unmarked, never ever pushed to the max.

Onboard Compressor, contour switch (for slapping) bright and deep boost, mute switch, ground lift, etc etc.

Had tonnes of compliments form other Bass players the times i have gigged it, weirdly enough it was the same compliment, its powerful and very clean with it.

Criminally underrated amps, mine is louder and cleaner at volume than an Ashdown Mag 300 and tonally is a lot punchier and growlier than most around this bracket.

Cost me £500 new in April 2007

Will take £275 and not a penny under!!!

buyer to collect (from Chipping Norton) due to weight of the items.

7. Ive had my Natural Ray 34 for a month now and am stoked with it. Having fairly recently played a real American Stingray i am stunned at how this thing is identical in every way bar where it was constructed. The sound is identical, the feel is identical, the looks are identical and the build quality on mine is simply sublime. Its also easily stacks up well against the SUB, better looks and equally as well built and comes with the with the 3 band eq (although i dont touch the mid control!)
Ernie Ball should have done the Ray 34 thing 15 years ago. :)

8. Best - Soundslive. Excellent service, pricing, communication, good stock levels. Ordered a Sterling Ray34 in natural, was out of stock but they got new stock in very quickly and i had it delivered within 5 days of the order.

Worst - GAK Online. Slow as hell and poor communication (do they actually stock anything?). I waited 4 weeks for a Fender Geddy Lee to be delivered, they really should list what they ACTUALLY have in stock on the site!!!. Also waited 4 weeks for my warwick wca 410 pro cab and when arrived it was the 8ohm version ( i'd ordered 4 ohm) so i waited even longer for the correct one to arrive.

9. i recently sold my Geddy On Ebay for Peanuts!!! They are great basses, well built with a solid punchy growl that i've rarely found in the Mexi Jazzes i've played. It was a 2008 MIJ with super build quality and finish. A real workhorse of a bass with a super fast neck ( found the gloss finish let the speed side down a bit) I couldnt recommend it highly enough. I have been hankering after the Stingray sound for years now so i sold it to fund a Ray34 (Awesome) if i had the money again i'd buy one of these like a shot, it has to rank as Fenders best bang for the buck bass out there. :)
