Yes. I won't question your personal preference of tunings, but I really think the high F is a lot more useful than the low F#, however. You'd need to make sure the strings fit properly in the nut by doing a little filing for the lower strings I should think, and you'd have to make sure there is enough of a taper on your low F# string for it to fit in the bridge, but sure, that's possible. -

Agreed 100%. When I wanted a new bass, I realised I had pretty much one of the best off the shelf 7 strings around, so that's why I ended up getting one built! There is nothing wrong with this bass at all, it is lovely, but I'm doing exactly the same as you Dood, shifting it on simply because my Shuker 7 will mean it stays in the case probably. And the neck and string spacing on this is pretty much exactly what my new Shuker is having The neck is not too wide, and it is very shallow - very playable!

I was just reading urb's thread, and noticed the Shuker comment in it. Didn't want to derail the thread, as it should (quite rightly) be about that beautiful new Sei! So I'll derail my own a little instead... I've noticed a fair bit of Shuker hate around here. Well, not 'hate', but there's definitely a feeling of 'not another one...' when someone gets one comissioned. Why is that? I'm sure Jon's got a lot of business from this forum, but that's just because he builds good instruments, surely? For me, the price was right, the location was right (same city as Jon), I'd played his instruments before, I knew he'd build my vision, and he is a very nice man who is very knowledgable! It was a decision made independent of Basschat, and from what I've seen of this beauty so far, I think I'm going to be very happy with my bass. EDIT: Just like urb, I don't want to turn this into a 'luthier vs luthier' slogging match betwen people feeling the childish need to defend their purchases of something which I am sure is probably a high class instrument regardless of builder... I'm just curious. Friendly plz ^_^

[b]SOLD PENDING USUAL[/b] Okay, so what with my Shuker 7 arriving in a couple of weeks, I'm really questioning whether I'll need two 7 strings, when one could be sold for an epic amp head. I'm still not entirely sure I'll want to sell this - I'll know after I've had the Shuker enough to experiment. Basically, it is in good condition, as I've been a loving owner. Gold is slightly wearing off to the silver underneath in some places such as where my hand rests on the bridge. Usual scuffs as expected from a bass. There is one noticable ding on the bottom of the bottom horn (can't see it when playing), which I will try and photograph for you - in the photo it is next to my thumbnail for size comparison. Also a small mark in the finish on the lower horn that has been there since I've owned this bass. The knob which has fallen off in the pictures has now been reattached. I replaced the (completely rubbish) Neutrik locking jack socket with an EMG one, and it has served perfectly ever since (it went on a little wonky. Not a lot - check the pictures). One screw missing from rear control cavity due to the threads stripping themselves. Other than that, excellent condition! The Bill Dickens signature on the pickups was covered in black marker pen when I bought it, but is wearing off to reveal the name underneath now. Fab bass, wouldn't sell it if it wasn't for the Shuker, and amp GAS! 34" scale Neck-thru 24 frets 16mm string spacing 2 signature Bill Dickens pickups Signature Bill Dickens electronics inc/ 3 way parametric EQ switch Dunlop Straplocks ready-installed. Natural finish. Asking £700 for it. I'll possibly throw in the £40 Levy's strap with matching Dunlop Straploks for £20 too. Basically, the pictures I'm linking to show you everything mentioned above. I got a DL4 for looping, but am thinking of buying an E2 anyway. I think the DL4 and the E2 both have good features that the other doesn't - the DL4 has the play once (listen to Minus The Bear's Menos El Oso to see how useful that can be), as well as modulation sounds to loop with delay, and also the reverse/slow down feature. The E2 can undo bad loops, and I think may have a longer loop time (could be wrong?). If I get an E2, I think I'd use it mostly for delay rather than looping, but I'll let you know if I get one, and how I find it

I only just realised - this *might* be finished by the Bash. Hadn't really thought about attending it, but if people want to meet the new Shuker, I might look into dropping down? Be even happier to go if someone has some nice amps I might want to try out ^_^

By the way, I'm not entirely opposed to the Shuker style headstock on a Fender style bass. Buying a bass from Jon, I want it to be a display of his work as much as anything else - I'm happy for him to plaster his design traits and name all over it! Also, an MX member called Killer Fridge (I'm sure he posted back on BW, don't know if he's still here) bought a 5 string Fender style bass of Jon with a Shuker style headstock, and it looked absolutely mint. I think he's sold it on now, but it suited it perfectly.

But if you look on their site, there are tons of endorsees who are absolute nobodies. Would an endorsement also mean using their cabs? I wouldn't want that! I'll look into it though.

£1499 from an eBay shop, and I'm next to Doncaster, so I can go and pick it up basically. Not quite £1700 :/ I've already had a phase of using a multi FX as my amp simulator etc, and it just doesn't compare with a few hundred watts of valve power behind you. Shame, as it would be a lot better on my back/wallet! Doesn't look the part, either

Just heard back from the guy whow as selling one - he couldn't shift it here or eBay, so he's taken it to America with him by the sounds of it. So the search continues. If you could point me to a DR series one, I'd be happy to have a look

Really had horrendous GAS for one of the Hiwatt Bass 200 amps to replace my marshall VBA400 recently. The VBA is brutal, but I think the wattage is just too much for me. What are peoples' opinions on them? And how much do these go for second hand? They seem to be about £1500 new, but I'd have to sell my VBA400 and my Conklin 7 string to afford it, and I reckon they wouldn't add up to £1500.

I think one of the pieces on there may well be the top on my bass he's building right now. There are plenty on there I never saw before though which may have forced me to reconsider the madrone at the time! There's always next time

Just be patient, I'll have them up in a few ticks Incidentally by the way, I had a look for other peoples' basses while I was there, and there was nothing really o_O Either they were all in the spray booth, or everyone has received them. I thought there were quite a few up for completion quite shortly?

Oooooh ^_^ I'm all giddy. Went down today for about 45 minutes and talked about various things with Jon. My bass now looks like a bass I'm relieved, strangely, to see it like that Not that I thought it would never get built or anything :S It is looking better than I anticipated at this stage, and seeing it so near finished, I am rethinking the scratchplate idea - leaning more towards not having one. But I'm still not 100% on either having it or not. I don't think it would look bad either way. Curiously, Jon said that it was the bass with the most separate pieces of wood in that he has ever built, clocking in at 34. That made me laugh. All of the wood is stuck together now, and all that is left to do is get rid of a few more bits (the neck needs final carving, and there needs to be a bit of routing for the pickup etc). I hazarded a guess at 3-4 weeks build time left to Jon, and he replied with "if that". Which is lovely, but I know what his timekeeping is like Anyway yes, I got a few pictures, but they were just on my phone. It isn't a great camera, but I tried my best. I'll upload one or two when I pull them off my phone

I see where you're coming from, and based on your spec, I would say the VFBjr is the thing to go for... But like I said earlier, the price difference is SO small, you might as well go for the VFB-2? Unless you have very little space, and know you will NEVER use the feedback loop...

Well I do have a chorus in at the moment, but it doeesnt seem to agree much with the loop. I'll look at the EQ though

Okay, just got hold of a feedback loop, and I realised I don't really have much of anything to put in it to be honest... First on my list is a delay, but I just sold mine, so I'm probably going to pick a digital delay up for starters. After that, I'm not sure what to go with. I'm after making just dumbass noises, with a bit of tweakability for some epic noise sections live. What's the suggestions?
