3. Bump for this awesome piece of custom made loveliness..
4. Thanks for spotting that Merton.. It is indeed an awesome amp but at the moment it becomes impractical and it's not being used, I sadly have to let it go..
5. Hi For sale here is my Ashdown BTA400 with matching ABM410 cab. To be frank, this amp is awesome. It destroys everything else on the market in this league and provide warm valve tone with all the features of the ABM series (Valve drive, compressor, sub-harmonics). It's a brutal amp that literally never stops. If you want headroom, this is it. In terms of spec, here's what Ashdown say: Handmade in our UK Custom Shop, the BTA-400 is a true contemporary bass masterpiece, for tonal connoisseurs who crave the traditional punch of valve amplification with the added flexibility of a modern preamp. Combining the unmistakable tonal sophistication of our industry-standard ABM preamp with the sonic might of a fully-loaded 6x KT88 400W valve power amp, BTA400 is a stadium-ready powerhouse, currently rocking the world with players like Nate Mendel of the Foo Fighters. All the ABM features are there – EQ In/Out footswitching, variable Tube/Solid-State input stages, on-board compressor, Sub-Harmonic Generator, balanced DI Output with Pre/Post EQ switching, FX loop, Tuner output and more.... Variable Valve Drive – from zero to rock hero Whatever tonal character you're seeking, the valve drive control can take you there. Engage it and set on zero for a pristine solid state preamp tone, or wind it up to increase the level of true valve overdrive that gets blended into the signal, taking you from a hint of hair to a fat overdrive. The Drive level be preset and kicked in and out via footswitch, providing access to a huge range of clean, warm and overdriven tones. The best EQ in the business Imagine the simplicity of a traditional 3-band EQ but with the flexibility of a graphic equaliser...that's what the acclaimed ABM preamp delivers, and that's why it's as popular with bass-purists as it is with modern tone-shifters. Designed to be as simple to use as a 3-band EQ but offer outstanding tonal shaping options, the ABM EQ features familiar Bass, Middle and Treble rotary controls and two pairs of additional sliders. With the sliders set in the center position the three knobs function just like a classic 3-band EQ. But if you require more flexibility, the additional sliders allow you to fine tune the EQ in the regions the standard controls can't reach, providing a huge range of variation and allowing you to tailor the perfect sound for any gig. The EQ can be switched in via footswitch taking you from a flat fretless sound to your favourite EQ setting instantly. One knob compressor Kick it in and this simple to use, great sounding compressor delivers a powerful, even sound, guaranteed to help your bass fill out any mix. Sub-Harmonic Generator Once heard – never forgotten. The ABM Sub-Harmonic generator adds an octave below the notes being played bringing fullness to any bass part. The Sub level is independently controllable, letting you dial in anything from a subtle hint of deep bass to a full-on subterranean funk. Flexible Footswitching Paired with our FS-4 footswitch (not included) the ABM comes alive for onstage use, enabling on-the-fly tonal gearshifts. With footswitchable Valve Drive, Compression, EQ and Sub Harmonic Generator, ABM puts dozens of sound combinations at your feet, without so much as an effect pedal in sight. Professional Connections Not that you'd expect any less from any amp loaded with the ABM preamp section, BTA400 is loaded with connectivity. A Sub-Bass output to feed the desk or an additional amp, a tuner output, transparent FX loop and a Line Input for the connection of an external sampler or sound source. Output muting cuts the signal from the DI output but leaves the tuner output 'live', allowing the player to tune up in silence. Now, if the amp is so good, you may be asking yourself why I'm selling it. To be honest, it's the age old scenario of downsizing. If it were up to me, I would keep it but with the other Ashdown amps I have and a growing family, plus the fact that my equipment storage and studio is in a basement, I simply can't justify keeping it. When I do gigs big enough to warrant it, there's backline supplied and my ABM500 does every other gig I need. Both amp and cab are around 3 years old but have been very well looked after. No cuts or tears, no real marks; they're cosmetically 9.5 out of 10. The amp has never been driven and always protected by a dust-cover (as has the cab). Retail on the head alone is £2799 so I think the amp and cab and fairly priced. I'm based in Brighton and you're welcome to come and try it out. Clearly, I would rather someone collected it in person but Ashdown managed to ship it to me so I'm sure there's someone out there that could arrange this if absolutely necessary. Any questions, please ask Russ
6. Yep, should be able to do that. Do you want to PM me your address and I'll put something in the post Cheers Russ
7. Hi For sale is my Ashdown Mibass550 Head. It's never missed a beat in 2 years and is in very good condition. I've been using it alot with my double bass but it works fine for rehearsals and small/medium gigs too. One very slight mark on the top but nothing else. A great range of tones from the EQ and plenty of thump. Fits in a gig bag and is very light and portable. Very useful headphone and line-in for evening practice with an iPod. I don't have the manual or box anymore but it's all pretty self-explanatory. You can also download a manual in PDF from the Ashdown website. £250 delivered to the UK. Can ship internationally but please contact me for a postage quote first. Cheers Russ
8. For Sale is a genuine Fender Gold Adonized pickguard, taken from a Mexican 50's P-Bass. Brand new, never been played.. Came straight off the bass in favour of a tort guard. Price includes postage.
9.
As said it does make me wonder about the chase of the perfect tone, and how the bass on many isolated tracks sounds fairly uninspiring on its own yet great in the mix. Plus not much low end or high end on those tracks either. Maybe there lies the story - the bass staying in it`s own area rather than trying to invade another.
I think you've hit the nail on the head there.. I hear so much about 'this cab goes to XX low frequency' and 'sparkling highs' etc etc but to me, alot of these basses sound fairly flat in the EQ dept, straight to the desk in most cases but they are some of the signature sounds that I've certainly built my career on. The first EP I ever did was cut to vinyl and we kept blowing the fuses of the cutting machine because in our inexperience as 19 year olds, we didn't know how to mix for vinyl and had completely overloaded the bass. I listen back to that now and it still sounds way over the top.. I'm taking a serious look at my tone at the mo and experimenting on tape is going to be a must..
10.
Just wondering how these bass tracks are isolated from the rest of the mix?
I guess by just having access to the master-tapes and making digital copies and then distributing. The power of the internet and the digital age I guess.. I suppose the main thing that fascinates me is that when I'm trying out new rigs or basses, I rarely do so in a studio environment and then listen back. It's most often in live and isolated situations but I'm certainly going to do more of this..
11. I'm becoming quite fascinated by these.. Not only a great source for study of the actual parts but a fascinating insight into the actual tones of the bass. Whether the sound is good or bad is subjective but I'm quite suprised by how different the bass sounds in isolation to how it sounds in the mix. It throws alot of light onto the constant 'tone-quest'!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmtgYeJ5BBo - I Want You - Beatles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMo1wcHn7gg - Seven Seas of Rhye - Queen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68ka0Af87dI - You're my best friend - Wueen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLDqlgRK100 - James Jamerson - Bernadette
