1. i got an old 5 string recently and while i have it for sale i'd like to get some use from it in the meanwhile, it's strung with a high c which suits me better as i normally play 4 string. i'm not really sure how to make the most of it and what techniques work better. any advice or a point in the right direction would be appreiciated. im very green when it comes to theory, tab is about as far as i've gone. thanks in advance
2. i'm not a 5 player at all but using the high c makes a great change to my esp, i never really found a use for the low b, but im not the most expierianced player in the world, i really like playing little chords on the bass sounds really sweet, is there any specific way to play a 5 string with a high c, while i've got my 5 i want to make the most of it, any suggestions would be appreicated
3.
Check out the High C thread here.
thanks seen it a little after i posted, didn't think i'd be the first to ask about it
4.
Try a few warwicks before making a judgement on them, for instance I doubt my old Streamer stage one is that much like a new streamer $$, they will be different. That said if I had to have just one bass I doubt it would be my Warwick. Dunno why, just sometimes, like at the practice I was at tonight I want that P bass tone and the way the notes sound. I should try a stingray somepoint too. What didn't the sandberg basic do?
if i'm totally honest the sandberg is so close to being perfect, but i love maple fingerboard rays i think till i have one i'm always gonna gas for one, in the future i would get another sandberg double mm pickups maple board in white but i've priced it and it's new stingray money for one, if i try a ray and its not as good as i'm hoping, i'll order a sandberg, i've discount the warwicks for now they look ok but nothing stunning imho
5. Actually I've never known anyone who hasn't benefited from lessons with a good teacher your right and the above sentance hits the nail on the head. having a GOOD teacher would no doubt be helpful, my mates taking some advanced bass lessons at the moment, seems to be doing him the world of good, but when your left on your own to learn it can be ok even though i was kind of forced into it. maybe i'll try lessons when i'm not so skint no doubt an enthusastic tutor would improve and refine any skill i picked up
6. i just recently got my old esp back, before i traded it i put warwick black labels on it, when i bought it, it was strung with a low b but i couldn't get any use out of it at all, the b ended up just being a thumbrest. with the high c it is far more useable imo. just wondering if there are any other 5 players that have their own basses set like this, i really prefer 4 string but if i had tried a 5 like this before maybe i wouldnt be so set on 4 string.
7. the only expieriance i had of lessons was at school, i say "lessons" loosley, a more accurate description would be i sat with tab while the tutor went for a coffee, because he played classical guitar he wasn't even slightley interested. i think it's great watching non bass players plunking away, always pick up something worthwhile, i like to try most instruments, taught myself how to play drums solely through youtube vids sometimes non traditional routes to learning are better. the drummer in my old band had a cool way of tapping that sounded mint, i still can't do it as good. i personally think lessons are only useful to people who can work with structure, thats my worst nightmare, but it works for some people. when i moved to playing bass i thought about lessons, mainly because i couldnt get over how difficult it was to start off with but between youtube and jams in my house with mates, i think i've pick up way more than i would at lessons, plus it didnt cost anything
8. lasted alot longer than i thought it would, someone has got a cracking bass, shame it's not me
9. you might struggle at that price, i had a streamer standard up for the same price a while back, ended up on ebay, heard good things about the rockbass range, but for whatever reason warwicks seem to struggle on here. good luck with it, hope you get it sold soon
10. you have a few options in that range, most of which are mentioned in my experiance epiphone are not the best basses or guitars if i'mk honest, try a few ibanez, cort, olp squiers. the longer you can save the better the bass you will get, imo on a budget you cant go wrong with ibanez, im not saying that cos' im selling one, im gonna withdraw mine but there is a natural one just been listed, if you want to slap but have some more tones available thats the one. super comfy, very easy to play and eq. plus they are solidly built, you really can't go wrong if i where you i would leave the epiphone well alone. if you see something you like ask plenty questions and make sure you try as many as you can. hope that helps a bit
11. what a cracking looking bass, some really good musicman stuff about right now, shame i'm skint have a bump on me
12. thats alot of bass for the money, not far away from a ray' imo every time i out mine up for sale i end up withdrawing it, somones gonna get a bargain good luck with it
13. bump will be on ebay soon unfortunatley
14.
Couldn't resisit - I've been gigging with the aforementioned 'bird and lovin' it!!!
im really glad your enjoying it man, and taking it to it's full potential i honestly hated it and i managed to get the bass that i swapped for it back, minus a severe amount of cash, the jazz i got from you lasted about a week and got traded a very good bass just not my thing tbh, hope things are well with you and all the best with bird and your band hit me a pm with your band really like to hear what your playing, kudos to the photographer btw that's a great pic
15. thought I had this sold but not heard back from the guy who was buying so still for sale if anyones interested I'm very suprised I've not had more interest if I'm honest, couldn't be better priced IMO it's a steal, it's a deal sale of the century
16.
ooh, that's gorgeous!
i've had a couple fugly basses but this ain't one imo quite torn on selling it want a good ray but this is that little bit different, wouldn't even consider a sale if it was a 4 string, tracked down a 4 string version but it was fretless and the first generation before the designer put his glasses on and added emgs
17.
I love it! Horizons are amazing basses to look at! Dont suppose you want to sell it on? :-) How much did you pay to get it back? i'll been putting it up for sale soon looking around £800 ish i bought it from america a few years ago for over a grand but i'm flexible with these things i'm in the middle of getting my perfect stingray so the sandberg is sold and this will have to go aswell its picked up some pick marks and a slight knock neither of which were me but these things happen, not bad for a 90's bass i'll give you first refusal
18. very suprised this is still here an original for that price is mental you'll regret selling for that, stick it on ebay with a reserve better than losing that amount of cash i'm all set bass wise or i'd swap the strat you were after have a bump for crazy price
19. bump
20.
That's lovely Have a bump from me. What kind of trades are you considering?
not really sure what I'm after would swap for a guitar of similar quality or cheaper one plus cash it's my only guitar now so no basses trimmed down alot on the gear I have but always like to have a nice 6 string about let me know if you have anything interesting see if we can do a deal
21.
never played one but always loved the look, i dont suppose we could get a sneak peak at it?
I'll be posting some pics tonight soon as I'm home let everyone have a look it's not as metal as the usual ESP stuff which is why I got it, if it was a 4 I'd keep it the ebony board is fantastic total stroke of luck gettin it back think it was ment to be got Warwick black labels with a high c which is a nice change from a 4 but my perfect Ray has turned up and needs must my sandbergs been the first to go in a big clearout never easy letting stuff like this go
22. i just recently managed to get my esp horizon 5 back through a trade, its not the most common bass around and i'm wondering if anyone on here has one or has tried one, i don't know much about it apart from the website spiel and it was made in the nineties and has emgs, if anyone has any info on these let me know, i'm gonna sell it soon as i'm not really a 5 player and i'm trying to get down to one bass soon thanks in advance
