Now this is what I call 'technique'...one hand & strange tuning?
iconic replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
This technique is not new. Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap has been doing that for years.
even more advanced...5 string one handed! -
I like this advanced technique, maybe not for everyone but why waste energy & why not keep that hand in your pocket if it isn't needed ....there is even a hint of slap just before the 'big' bass playing bit at 1:49....I've tried this advanced one hand technique but struggle to be honest I run out of open strings...there are some C's, F's and even a F# in this choone so that's 7 strings, not counting the octave mini pops...but I'm sure that's looks a 4 string http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jA__pPxyx_A

I am both!...buyer and supplier...my own car sales. ...from a spectrum of a lot of car dealers i know.... The ones i buy from, quite a lot do carp fishing and play an instrument....the more erm 'rough diamonds' play sunday football and carp fishing...an observer of human behaviour may make something of that? -
maybe the 'excited' pricing structure is due to being a one off. .....as in the only one with that serial number?

old....heard this for the first time only last night....! I've discovered Kevin Ayers only to find he recently died. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DPqfcN9eSY new...I love the bassline, this is the song...quite hard to sing in the original key so I'm told....I can't sing, so wouldn't know! headless bass....I keep getting lost....am I loosing my head?
iconic replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
totally normal. The bass sits differently. I've got an old Steinberger that sits on its pivot strap and actually doesn't do this. But my Hohner B2a did and my Status and also my steinberger GR4 guitar. eventually, I got used to it. It still makes me chuckle
thanks for the reply, Yes, it does sit 'differently' but the actual fret position is in line with that of my jazz bass, which I find most odd? -
http://www.addmoremu...t/Monkees1.html
wow!, now this is interesting, thanks! now!...but who is Larry Taylor and sadly no details for I'm A Believer

I always fancied a headless bass....to go with my mullet 'n highlights, skintight jeans, leather box jacket or pale yellow jacket with sleeves rolled up for that Don Johnson look.... So I bought a really sweet active 80's Jack Bass off here (thanks Ivan ), it's beautiful thing, excellent build quality, great and very varied selection of tones, super low action.....lower than a snakes belly in a rut, doesn't loose tune, great balance....so whats the catch, this really IS a good bass...? well.....I seem to get lost on the fretboard....playing 2 steps up, unless I really think what I'm doing and I'm lazy so this comes hard to me. I have even had the Jack sitting on my knee along with a jazz at the same time, to try and figure if there is a difference in where the fretboard sits in relation to each other......result, from this scientific experiment is that there is no difference, so it's all in my head. Anyone else had this issue with a headless....at the moment I'm even thinking of putting on some of the decal kit block inlays to help, black and white, very 80's. ....most likely just me and my lack of prowess on basses

Just been going thru a Monkees week, some super tight and really busy, well played basslines hiding away in some their gems....try Pleasant Valley and I'm A Believer for tasters. Now, I know that Carol Kaye 'says' she played on their tracks, but with respect is there anything she says she didn't play on?..... but I've also read it also be the Monkees producer Chip Douglas? any Monkees fans/anoroaks can clarify this. .....and it seems Davy Jones, Mike Nesmith, and Peter Tork all play bass (same bass in 3 of these pics?) but wouldn't of thought they did the recorded basslines, seems a lot of bands had session musicans stand-in for expensive studio time...Wrecking Crew etc.

Although I should be selling (and I am, honestly!) I couldn't resist a Hohner Jack in sexy black, always fancied a headless. The bass very under described by Ivan, she is lovely. One of lifes gentleman, pleasent to deal with, upfront, genuine and an interesting musical history too...could have talked all day but had to go to work, regrettably! Buy with confidence. thanks Ivan

I'm a sucker for orange and black, saw this today and thought, THIS IS THE BEST LOOKING bass I've seen in a long long time. I'm not looking to buy one (never say never, although I'm selling bass's or should be!) but I've realised that I know nothing about ESP and/or these 800 Jazzers. Can anyone enlighten me?
