1.
Donald, you're getting yourself quite the photo collection by the looks of things. James
Yip I think my male modelling career looks promising! Anyway , back in the real world , thanks to a donation via Mr Greg Nash ( 4strings) from an event at Highway Church, East London the total raised so far is now over £2000 !!
2.
Great to see this is still going strong and more name players getting in on the action.
True, but it's also getting back to some proper gigging action - very soon ... woo-hoo!
3. Both Alan and Norman kindly agreed to support the BC Bass Relay, and we met up in Glasgow yesterday when they were both playing at the O2 Academy There's more detail on the pinned thread , but here's a wee taster. Both were top blokes , genuinely interested, and listened to me babble on about the Relay.
4. Firstly a handover with Charles Tibbles ( Charlie T) who'll be gigging it in the very near future , and a camera shy mystery man... A trip through to Glasgow where there was quite a bit of interest shown as we continued our mission Onto the O2 Academy where we were looked after by Bob Young , Quo'sprevious manager /collaborator/harmonic player on this tour, then met Mr Alan Lancaster , had a nice chat , he was genuinely interested asking what kind of bass it was , asked me to adjust the strap height to his liking and he proceeded to have a play on it. Next , up , Norman Watt-Roy, again an absolute gent and genuinely interested. Again , strap height adjustment and a bit of a play on it. Both signed the bass and signed the log book Many thanks to Alan and Norman -top blokes!
5. Taking over the baton from Alan Lancaster and Norman Watt-Roy, who we met yesterday- ( both were perfect gents and genuinely interested, ( pics to follow shortly) ) - The Tonkerers bass player Charlie Tibbles (basschat member CharlieT) will be playing the Purple Princess with the band at Sportsters Falkirk this Sunday . Thereafter, the band will also be taking her on her first oversea CalMac trip to the beautiful island of Islay on Saturday 19th April when they will be playing at Bruichladdich Hall.
6. Unlikely, would be good though....
7.
Ha, already posted this link here. His wife's in for a nasty surprise on her big day!
Ehm, maybe I'm missing something ( again ) , but whats the deal about the nasty surprise/big day ? C'mon, spill the beans!
8. I know some Squiers are much sought after , but.... http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/fender-squier-jazz-bass-guitar-worth-1200-red-and-white-with-new-strings-strap-and-bag/1053782533#photo-content I know it's got new strings bag and strap.. am i missing something?
9. Warning this video features a number of instruments, including a certain purple Stagg/Baton/Relay Bass on a number of occasions- The Big Close-up is around the 2 minute mark. ( I tried to get that as the pic above but didn't know how)
10. More news , Norman Watt - Roy of Blockheads & Wilko Johnson fame will also be getting involved in April when Wilko plays in Glasgow .
11. Too late ...
12.
Wow! Seems a shame to eat that! Do you find much difference with the cake having a rosewood fingerboard whereas your bass is maple?
Too right - I really didn't want to cut it but was forced too! I heard " You'll need to cut your cake" at least half a dozen times but just wandered off and did something important and got another beer. You'd be surprised about the quality of the fingerboard
13. Exactly! Here's mine
14. The bass is with me at the moment - the next thing lined up is on 8th April when Alan Lancaster of the original Status Quo has agreed to get involved. In the meantime is anyone wants to get involved in any shape or form , give me a shout.
15. Yip, that's right enough. It's back with me if anyone's wanting to get involved in the meantime. Here's the handover from Lewis earlier today. I'm sure there was very handsome young man at the end of that arm....
16. Phil Jupitus bought one from Reddog Music in Edinburgh a couple of years back . Fact.
17. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/hagstrom-iib-bass-guitar-rare-opportunity-for-vintage-bass/1050617184 Described as 60's/70's
18. Good result - I was going to offer my services but it's now sorted!
19. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/antoria-bass-guitar/1050123440#photo-content Don't know anything about them but this looks like a vintage bass - Eagle scratchplate...
20. Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster bass, might be an option ( it's medium scale), as mentioned the EB0 is cheap but a bit variable in quality from what I gather.
21. I watched a bit of it - you could smell the reek of desperation through the telly. Some of it was toe curlingly embarrassing, Nile Rogers is pretty cool though. I think I saw his " Who is this fanny?" thought bubble when James Corden was not being hysterically funny chatting to him .
22. Yip, well done to all, long may it continue! The only thing definite at the moment is that Alan Lancaster has agreed to get ininvolved when the original Status Quo lineup play in Glasgow in April. The bass is still with bassist_lewis in Edinburgh , however if anyone wanted to get involved before then or take it to the LBGS or Midlands Bass Bash or the like , it can easily be couriered ( Paisley Freight have been used before - £13.50 for next day)& I'd arrange for it to be with me for the AL appointment in April.
23. Interesting stuff - so the bassline examples were pretty rubbish then?
24. Just Dandy.
25.
Will the Baton be in or around Leicester in May and would it like to come to the Midlands Bass Bash?
Sounds like a great idea, nothing to stop it being there other than arranging it. Anyway, Derek Forbes , who you may know from bands such as Simple Minds , Propaganda and now Big Country, has agreed to get involved in the , ahem, "BC Relay". . Details still to be sorted out.
