1. BandMix works for me
2. On my P I haven't broken any so haven't changed any. They get a good wipe down after playing and that seems to do the trick. I probably should change the bronze strings on my coostic... my fingertips go grey/black after a few hours of playing, but i kind of like the muddy tone and I'd probably be doubling the value of the bass if I restrung her
3. were you stuck in the corner next to the gents toilet too?
4. the tally-ho hotel through in winchburgh... no far from where the M8 becomes the M9. was organised through the scottish roadrunners mcc
5. just back from me first gig for about 18 years with a band i've been playing with for a couple o weeks... and it went no too bad at all didn't get boo'd off and no bottles thrown. not perfect... but waaay better than i was expecting in fact the pub has booked us to play some more, and a few of the punters were enquiring about us playing at some of their dos cheers to everyone on BC for the help, advice and second hand kit at reasonable prices \o/
6.
Frog dude! I think that finding people who have their own transport, can play, are reliable, able to commit time to gig and reherse and is not a total twonk head can be quite difficult. There is always 2 or three people on Glasgow gumtree looking for bassists. Go for it and enjoy yourself and if you are playing through this way, gies a holler. Jez
will do Jezzster... bout time you heard the black beastie you sold me in action
7.
In a few years you will be neither inexperienced or on the wrong side of 35, so as long as you keep playing and stay alive, that'll be sorted.
What I meant by this was... novice bands at my current skill level tend to be younger, not a problem to me but they generally seem to stipulate age restrictions and bands with members around my age tend to contain people who have been playing for years and are used to working with experienced musicians... ie not me so i was a bit surprised (and terrified if i'm honest) to get a shout from one band let alone two. However I'm sooooo glad I took the plunge and did it, loving every minute of it and finding my playing is getting so much better just from playing with people who know what they are doing As to personal hygine... i was none too fresh last night... muggy weather+rehersal room does not make me smell of roses Fragrent Froggy
8. Dunno if this is other peoples experience but... I've had 2 call ups for auditions in as many weeks via Bandmix. Both bands are pretty good working pub bands... I got the spot with the first band, first gig tomorrow night and I only got the email from the second band this morning and haven't replied yet. Being inexperienced bass wise and the wrong side of 35, I was expecting to have a struggle finding a gigging band that would take me but this doesn't seem to be the case. I'm assuming that me having my own gear and transport is an advantage, however from what band members have said to me "guitarists are 10 a penny... but bassists are hard to find" Is this just something in my area (central scotland) or are we a rare breed country wide?
9.
Ok, Si - so how did it go?
...still in toilet???

12. some blurb about them in here SR600 at guitarguitar
13. I usually use Ultimate Guitar etc for tab... and youtube as you suggested. Hadn't seen Chordie before so that's now on my favourites list. Just I'm a bit pressed for time to get all of the set list learned as real life keeps interveaning in my playing time. Luckily there are so many clever helpful people on BC to help with these problems. Thanks again
14. Perfect... that's great I'll put something together around that. Many thanks OG.
15. Don't know if this is the right place to post this but... does anyone have a transcription (chord changes/tab/notation... anything) for Nutbush City Limits? By some miracle I passed an audition for a local covers band and have 15 new songs to learn for a gig in a couple of weeks (my first proper gig since... well... last time I was on stage all this were fields) so I'm flapping around trying to nail the set list. I've managed to find something to work with for everything but Nutbush. I would just sit with the recording and work something out but I'm really up against it for time. Any help on this will be gratefully accepted. Johnny

20.
Me too. We should be practising, not wasting our bloody time on BC!
I'm at work so i can't practise anyway... if i wasn't on here i'd have to be doing something really dull
21.
Does anyone else have a similar problem, where you can master certain things in no time at all, but other things just don't seem to happen?
Nope... it takes me ages to nail even the simplest stuff
22. if we all liked the same things then there'd only be one manufacturer around and we'd all be listening to/making the same music... and how dull would that be?
