  1. I bloody love Danny. Brightens my day right up. Well now we know the event is real, and I sincerely hope whoever is going enjoys it. I'm gonna stay home and watch YouTube videos about Barbara Streisand.
  2. There's a new mystery, where did Danny's video go? It's now marked as private...
  3. I agree. Sounds like a candidate for change.org. What is with camera operators and editors? Who died and made them the arbiters of which musicians and instruments get to be featured? Us poor old bass players are perpetually marginalised. Unless it's Sting, Flea, or Geddy... Maybe we need to step out of the shadows (that area next to the drum kit) and get in front of the lead singer, take control of the stage! Shout "look at me, look at my bass!"
  4. Danny Sapko's posted a video about the mystery. It's still a mystery. https://youtube.com/shorts/15FfetE5b_I?si=pYzrRspaD9Pf9XOZ
  5. I'm disappointed there isn't a Donald Trump Junior version πŸ˜‚
  6. What's in your case? - An M15. Wow, 15 strings, do come in and have some cake!
  7. This thread got me thinking, and I ended up taking said bass to a luthier who did a sterling fret job and setup, including lowering the nut. The combined price of the bass and work is Β£300 and what I have now is an instrument that plays as well as my other very expensive basses. I no longer hate it. All is forgiven.
  8. I'd like to give a shout out to Chris at Hightide guitars in Rusper (West Sussex) https://hightideguitars.co.uk/ He carried out a fret dress and setup on my Squier Affinity PJ - which turned a cheap bass with fret work worse than English teeth, into something remarkable and now very much playable.
  9. I'd go if Danny Sapko was on the billing with both: a) a skit taking the piss out of all the other players, and 2) a live performance of his band.
  10. I've never sought out music from non English speaking/singing bands, but a YouTube short captured my attention yesterday. The band was called Klaus Mitffoch, from Poland, and their bass player is Lech Janerka. They've since disbanded but Lech has gone on to make some amazing music with solid catchy basslines. He's 71 and still touring and producing! (Not understanding the lingo helps me to focus on the instrumental side!) Are there any non English language bands you can recommend with great bass players?
  11. You mean the Mononeon Jazz bass pickguard with matching headstock type orange? I'd dig that. 😁
  12. Makes me crave Dairy Milk chocolate seeing that.
  13. Please buy me a lottery ticket, I'll send you my address πŸ˜‚
  14. I think it's a fair and valid question. Hate just means "intense dislike". Yes I have a bass which I hate, because I dislike it and the intensity is subjective. I own very well manufactured expensive basses which I adore, but buying a cheap squier affinity p bass for kicks was just not worth it. Maybe I should hate myself for thinking it was a good idea, and not hate the bass. How it was made and passed QC was not its fault. I won't make that mistake again...
  15. For silent practice, iPad Bluetooth into Spark Go with headphones for playing along to stuff, especially the garage band drummers. Otherwise a PJB BG75 for low volume, or an RM 800 Evo ii into 2 x 112T if the wife and neighbours are out.
  16. As a dear friend used to put it, "exposure doesn't put petrol in the tank". Those gigs were always refused and the promoter given an earful.
  17. Finding a band = dating. Being in a band = relationship. Leaving a band = divorce. It's always a case of expectations, then working with what you've got. Nothing will ever be 100% fit. I wish you the best of luck finding your new band.
  18. Hi, does anyone own one of these and if so please could you tell me if it's ported or sealed? https://ashdownmusic.com/products/rm-112-evo-iii Thanks
  19. It seems from a few of these examples that the older one gets, the more forgiving one can become, or that we're not so bothered by the things which used to annoy us, because life's too short and is only getting shorter. Probably my main reason for thinking about getting the band back together. One last go before it's too late.
  20. Reminds me of a band I was in for a couple of months where the drummer and I would warm up by locking into a funked up version of the song which would drive the guitarist singer songwriter mad. We'd bring it back to within expectations once we'd done our bit, but there were too many tantrums so I quit. I often bump into the band lead, and over the years he's always been amicable, but never asked me back πŸ˜‚
  21. It's been amazing reading your stories so far. And my respects to those who are no longer with us.
  22. So you're middle aged or older, and you are feeling heavily nostalgic for the band you were in, in your early twenties. You and your old band mates have barely been in touch, but now you want to get the band back together for either shits and giggles or some serious gigs. What has been your experience?
  23. I use a Spark Go. It's got just enough bass amp configuration to get the sound I want, and doubles up as a good headphone amp for my guitar. That and the play along features which I use on guitar makes it worthwhile for me. But if I only played bass then I might not have chosen it. Also the effects are decent enough. You can add a bit of grit to your sound, and EQ, noise gate, etc. Forgot to mention, I've got an old Vox amplug but it hisses like mad. Maybe the newer ones are better, or try a different brand?
  24. Thank you. I've gone down a rabbit hole which will no doubt result in GAS. πŸ˜†
