  1. all i seem to see is fenders and warwicks in the pop side of things.the odd music man,i aint seen hardly any spector, ken smith, mtd, wal in the charts.unless they have been using session guys, and then most of them seem to be using 5 strings.
  2. have gone back to playing four strings, been playing a 5 string for the last 5 years.looking into a high end four string at the moment to make the jump next year.thinking mtd 435 or spector euro lx.my question is though, why do most high end compaines seem to attract 5 string players and not the 4 stringers.it may just be me but most high end companies seem to supply all the pro 5 stringers and four stringers tend to stick with warwick or fender.am i wrong????is there a reason behind this?t

    Fretless

Hi all, I defretted my spector performer a few years back and I love it, until now I have been using tomastik infelds roundwounds. my question is I have started using this bass to play with a hardcore/rock band and its pretty interesting.I have been thinking about using a different type of string but not sure what.what do you guys put on your fretless basses and do you play heavier styles with a fretless? can the type of string affect the fretboard too with it being defretted? any feedback will be good, thanks,t

  19. Flea played spector basses live for years, still uses them in studio too, as does chris something from silverchair, so they work well with that grungy sound too, spector all round matey. I got one of the korean models, had it for nearly ten years. had it defretted two years back, superb!!!!
  20. Am I correct in thinking it is just the electronics that is different between the american standard jazz and the american deluxe jazz basses? Also, does the deluxe have passive capabilities as well as being active? Any other differences please let me know. Played an an american standard jazz yesterday and it was amazing! Think I prefer them to the 75 re issues that I originally wanted!
  21. you have just bought a superb piece of equipment! my mate sold one about 8 years ago and bought it back last year, he has hardly played anything else since. as the last post states the controls vary on them a fair bit i think.
  22. Loads of my favourite players use stingrays! I love the sound of them, on record too, but they do not work for me! I felt a G and L did all that and loads more. The 2000 or 2500 series. But to be honest I could play any bass in the world and still sound bad! I dont think you will go far wrong with a musicman though. But something like a jazz will always be useful and applicable to most music situations. I was very impressed with the aerodynes too, lovely bass and good for the money. Tim
  23. Thanks for that, I know there is a big price difference. My main thought though is that I need a bass as a tool, not something to buy and play at home in an airtight room with soft walls and floors! Will start my research now as I know which direction to go in. Where is the best place uk wise to try fenders out? Thanks again, Tim
  24. Hey all. After much thought I think I want a Jazz bass. From the day I started playing I said to myself that I would never play a jazz or a precision as when I went to buy my first bass the guy in the shop, who is now a friend told me I needed a jazz or precision. being a typical kid I was not going to do what an adult told me to do!!!! Down to business.... My first thoughts were to get an MTD 435 or 535. But in reality, if I did get one I would not be happy to parade one on stage. If I damaged it I would never forgive myself, if someone else damaged it, they would die,not good. So, money wise up to about 1500 pounds limit me thinks, I really like the look of the 75 Jazz reissue's, I have also seen these in the american series and also in the Japanese. Any info on both models would be good, and also other Jazz types worth looking at? All the best,Tim.
  25. I have just become the owner of a marshall 2 x 15. I am very surprised with it. Gutted that I have spent time and money on other cabs in the main. It does what it sets out too. Big, loud, in your face, but works well at quiet levels too. As far as brands being crap I am going to make some people laugh here..... About 7 years ago a band I was with at the time were selected through a tv company to have the welsh national orchestra record one of our songs with us at their studio in Cardiff. We were told all amps would be provided. I turn up,no bass amp. Few phone calls later, someones friend's nephew had a Carlsbro Bass beaver combo. I pissed myself. Plugged in and away we went. It was without a doubt the BEST recorded sound I ever managed to get! Seriously. So, if something works,it WORKS! end of.
