I like my SRX700, it's great! I enjoyed my (luthite) EDB 600 before I broke it by dropping it... Otherwise, An MC924 (fretted) An old (c.1980) Roadster or Roadstar- Make that both! And I could be tempted by one of those ATKs with a neck "J"
ooh i forgot about SRX700s, they're brilliant looking basses. never played one though.
Yeah, that's the first and only bass I've purchased so far. As far as I can tell it's a decent bass, but then again I don't have any experience with anything better. The action was pretty bad when I got it, but after I fiddled around with the truss rod and bridge it plays great. The electronics are a bit noisy though, when you turn the treble/bass knobs it tends to crackle a bit, not sure if this is just mine or if it's true in general. I like it, but as I have said I don't really have much experience so it might not be that great by other people's standards.
you wanna get your pots cleaned.

Bassist Are VERY Conservative in what they want from a bass
Tait replied to Spoombung's topic in General Discussion
this is going to sound like a rhetorical question, but its an actual question - how many custom guitar makers are there out there? because i never hear about any, but i'm always hearing about different bass builders, and i go on both guitar and bass forums. EDIT: im talking about electric guitars, theres loads of custom acoustic builders. -
+1, I didn't vote as I can't decide between the two
you can vote for more than one...
Probably a 2615B Artist: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/anniversary/313/4.jpg Or perhaps a 2388B/DX, early version with full width sparkly inlays, or a Black Eagle, or a 2364B Dan Armstrong copy, or... I like old Ibbys, I do. Jon.
wow, thats really cool looking. im not sure i'd like the sound (liking a more modern, very trebly clicky sound, but with lots of bottom end rumble there, too) but just for looks i'd give it 10/10
Middle picture, but swap it around to E-A is closer to the bridge, but there's still an ~inch between both sets of D-G pups would be my choice. Too close and you wouldn't get much sound variation. Although, if I was going to route it, I'd whip out the other P-pup and put soapbars in.

Yep middle one for distance,(i.e. not cutting into the scratchplate) but with the halves reversed as per no. 3
^ what they said

i've already got an SR500 (which would be my first choice), and i don't really like the way any of the higher end soundgears look, so i'd go for an ATK310 in white. my dad used to have a natural atk305 and i loved it. bloody heavy though. or maybe an old roadster, which ive never played but they look cool.
Trouble is that the SR500 is twice as much. I read that the SR500 marks easily, do you have one? Tried the GSR200 but it wasn't made properly and it buzzed like crazy. Are there any decent basses for about £200?
it marks the same as any other stained wood really, ive had mine 4 or 5 years now and theres a couple of places where the stains chipped beneath the D and G strings where i've been popping, and then some above both pickups where i've rested my fingers. but you'll get these on any stain bass, and it probably doesn't help that i really dig in when i play, either. the GR series aren't great tbh, personally, i wouldn't get one unless you've only just started playing and might give up in a months time. i'd say if you can't afford the SR500, definatly go for the SR300 - its a perfectly gigable bass, and that white finish is great looking, they play nicely provided you like thin necks, and are very versatile (i've only messed around on one before my gig last night, but thats what i thought of it) but if you can stretch to the SR500, i would.
I've got two Chris and can't disagree with you more. My Blackburst is solid but a little heavy. However, the custom (with the wretched custom finish!!) is as light as a feather and plays like a beaut!!!!!! (have a few more!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!)
i love those
-
i voted all of them except fade (which i can't stand) because i can think of basses that i'd choose in every one of those colours (provided CAR counts as red, rather than metallic, same goes for LPB).
-
there was a SR300 at a gig i played today, and i had my SR500. tbh its well worth the extra money for the SR500.
-
that would look great with a straight front pickup
-
i got an identical mm22 as yours OTPJ, they really are excellent basses for the money. like you said, shame they don't make them any more.

Jazz necked Single soapbar p bass shape thing.
wow, that looks really nice with that pickguard, i think it would look really nice in natural too...
+1 or white, or black. -
The scratchplate really adds another dimension to it - very nice shape. Can't wait to see the finished product!
+1 that forarm contours very sharp, though. -
everytime i see this thread i go onto warmouth and see how much a les paul bass with 2 musicman pickups would cost, and realise its too expensive for me. im really looking forwards to seeing this built.
I think that you only need one bass clef - at the 12th fret. Three is overkill and dilutes the idea.
+1 oh, and i also think either all gold hardware or all chrome, the chrome bridge and gold knobs look a bit wierd to me. and i'd say buckeye burl rather than flamed maple. obviously its what you think is best though, if you like 3 bass clefs, go for 3 bass clefs.
-
is it me or are the knobs wierdly placed? im sure the first knob is further away from the other two knobs? EDIT: oops, just realised hes obviously squeezed that third knob in between the jack socket and the second knob

BASS GUITAR MAGAZINE - Sensible Suggestions Thread
Tait replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
my only suggestion is that they review more mid priced basses, things between sort of £300 and £600. it always seems to be really expensive basses or occasionally a really cheap, starter bass. -
you may have mentioned it, i cant remember all the way back to the start of the thread, but is it a different bass that you're using? i had this same trouble when i bought a thunderbird, at first i used a sweat band, which worked, but i ended up selling it (not just ecause of this, but it was one of the many reasons).
-
i voted the middle one, but the keyword in it was "can". i "can" change volume up or down by playing harder or lighter. i dont.
Warmoth alder Jazz body with Japanese neck, Dimarzio pickups, Hipshot bridge
that would look excellent with a black pickguard methinks.
